Default premium sound system

has anyoone else heard anything about not getting Basic sound system, only premium available for now. Was trying to save a few bucks and dealer says only premium is available right now, not Basic system. extra 500$.

If this is the case, I will definitely complain until they give it to me for the base price...or knock off $300 and remove the radio; as I already have an in-dash nav waiting.

What I was told was tht Scion anticipated sales of this system to be very brisk because of Ipod MP3 Capabilities , so they mass produced opening Vehicles with this setup and that basic radio will not be available for 2-3 months right now. They feel that sales will be brisk with this system and the younger Ipod Mp3 genertation woill want them more than Base system. So mits not just me I guess

Only problem with that theory is that the base radio has the iPod connector too.

All the "upgrade" radio has is the cool looks/screen, and the pre-outs on the back. If they think it is worth $400 when very nice nav units can be had for $800, they are mistaken.

Default Premium Radio

The premium radio, first time ever has pre-amp outputs this has got to be worth soemthing.
personally i would take the base radio and toss it for an Alpine touchscreen unit. that new
IVA-W205 headunit is nice and a portable navigation unit internally docks to the headunit for low cost navigation.
With bluetooth
That is my choice!

I got the stock radio. The shiny bits that seem to be the only reason for the premium upgrade didn't seem to be worth the money.

I wasn't told anything about a shortage of stock radios. However, as this is a brand new model, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a temporary imbalance in parts distribution. I wouldn't expect it to last long.

Compatibilty with steering controls and Ipod controls worries me with aftermarket units. I know they produce some kind of integration module, but the effectiveness of this is yet to be seen. I'm sure fieroman will let us all know how the navi goes. Right??

Of course...but you might have to wait a while until I get my car and I can get some install help or the install instructions from Crutchfield. The module I got only works with Pioneer and Sony units.
