I'm really a newbie when it comes to audio stuff..

I currently have the Premium HU on my xB and I'm trying to install a new sub system. so.. am i supposed to be connecting the amp with the rca cable to the back of the HU and connect the speakers to the amp?

 

Yes. But also have to run power from your battery with a larger gauge wire and also a run of thin wire to the remote wire of the amp. You also need to ground the amplifier.


On the premium HU, if you use the sub outputs (which you SHOULD) you'll have to turn them on. It's detailed how to do this in the manual IIRC. If not, there's a thread about it.

Yes. Subwoofers need more power than regular speakers.

If you replace your stock speakers, it would even be a good idea to get a 4 channel amplifier to run them. You'll get better sound and it will be louder. Plus, dependent on the amplifier, you can tweak crossovers and what not so you get the most out of the speakers.

So, yes. You need an amplifier, especially for subwoofers.

well, i got these Alpine SWS 1043D sub and i wonder what the good combo was

 

The type S sub isn't bad. I've never used one myself, but I know a guy that has one in his tC. Make sure you build a proper box, or if you prefer, purchase a prefab one.

I prefer to build my own. I get more output and better performance.
