Default 2008 Release 5.0 price quote.

I saw a 2008 Release 5.0 for sale at a local dealership and was trying to get a feel for what this vehicle should go for.

Here are some of the specifics.

It has 60k on the clock, clean CarFax, 5-speed, leather seats, sunroof, chrome wheels, service records are up to date. Extremely clean.

What would this go for at a dealership?

They are currently asking around $12.5k for it.

Is this reasonable? Thanks in advance!

A used car dealership is asking $12,888 here in NorCal for the 2008 that I traded in with 98,2xx miles. It does have navi, NF springs, alloy wheels, tint & vent visors, but it's not an RS, so probably a comparable value.

BTW, I do think they're smoking something for asking that much for an '08 xB with 98k miles on it. They bought it at auction more than a month ago and have had it for sale since then, so it's certainly not "priced to sell."

Thanks for the info guys. I will say that this Xb has been on their lot for about a month now and I imagine that they are motivated to get it sold.

I talked to their internet sales dept and the seller is playing games and won't deal (won't talk numbers) over email and insists that I come in to show I am "really serious" about buying the car. This normally wouldn't be a problem but the dealership is a 4 hour drive away and I'll be damned if I drive all that way without knowing how much I am paying for it.

I can't imagine their Internet Sales dept has never brokered a deal via email. Sounds like they want me there so they can grind it out with me.

HERE is the Xb I am talking about.

According to KBB that XB with those options is worth $13,435 suggested retail. If it were auto, it would be worth $600 more! The spoiler only adds $135. Maybe he could find a 08 XB with similar mileage somewhere for $9-10k but it won't be a RS 5.0 with leather, sunroof, premium stereo or chrome wheels. More like a base model with no options in fair-good condition.

To the OP, there are always better deals to be had if you search long and hard enough but if you like that car with those options and wheels, the price is fair. Good luck.

I didn't mean to bust your ***** but $9-10K didn't sound right so I looked it up. IIRC KBB trade-in value on my 08 is ~11K. FYI, the RS 5.0 came with steelies and hub caps so those wheels are an upgrade. The 19" TRD wheels were always an expensive dealer-installed option.

Thanks for all the reply's everyone. Well, it is all a moot point as I will be driving a brand spankin' new 2012 Xb next week.

I must have researched used Xb prices for a solid month and I came to teh conclusion that the depreciation is so small between one year to the next that buying new was the right choice for me. In my area 2010's with 30k miles on the clock were selling for only $2k less than a new 2012. Used 2011's were often RIGHT AT new 2012 retail prices. Heck, 2011 new prices and 2012 new prices were only like $300 difference between them!

My wife hated the gold color on that 2008. She tried to like it but it just wasn't in the cards. After seeing the upgrades that was introduced in 2011/2012 (seats, armrest, bluetooth, redesigned front end) I was sold the moment I drove one at the dealership.

hi all, first post. i'm looking at picking up a Xb and like shanecrow99, i'm realizing that a model that is 1-3 years old is selling at a price point that makes buying new almost given. i've got a few questions. is the scion pricing negotiable like other car brands? are most of you buying after market upgrades (wheels, spoiler, etc.) or are you getting them installed at the dealer? any advice is appreciated.

shanecrow99, how is the new ride?

Scions are "pure priced" so what you see is what you pay. No haggling. You could go used and negotiate the price.

My dealership only had one Xb on the lot and it had a bunch of options I didn't want. So they ordered me one right off the boat. The price between what the dealership quoted me and the price online was identical.

I would either install your options yourself or have someone other than the dealership do it. Dealerships charge an arm and a leg to do the installs. You can always pick up your accessories cheaper elsewhere than at the dealership.

Oh and I freaking LOVE the new ride. Just got it tinted and installed some vent visors. I will be swapping the steering wheel out for a leather one out of a tC soon. May write up a tutorial with pics when I do that one.

I will get some pics up here before too long. The only options I bought from the factory were the floormats. Everything else was basically stock. I got the window tinting / ventshades on my own.
