"I feel I was lied to by scion " ????????

It is a car company, not your best friend. The truth of it is that there isnt near enough demand in the money short kid culture to support totally radical new models all the time. This isnt ferrari

As far as the parts.. well, TRD puts out parts and all the little kids start crying that it isnt enough, is too expensive, or even just hate on it because the aftermarket must be better cause the big corp sucks.... so they go the the aftermarket, supporting it, thus the aftermarket produces all the good parts. To show one good example, toyota isnt going to make springs for the tc that utterly destroy handling by over-lowering the car... but 90% of the owners that mod them have no clue about suspension geometry and b!tch and whine that TRD makes crap and then run out and buy improperly designed, low spring rate, super low springs. So how is a company that has to stick to proper design supposed to win in that situation? Honestly, as sad as it is, if I were making cars.. I would seriously have reservations with trying to suit a crowd as generally unrealistic as the "tuner" crowd... enthusiasts are one thing.. tuners are another So the let the aftermarket run with it.. and I am happy with that. It spawns more industry and more competition.. and once in a while some of them make some good parts.

I do agree though that the new xB isnt all that pleasant looking.. but I am a bad judge since I never thought any generation of xB looked good. I utterly despised the first one when I first saw it. Since then it has grown on me a bit.. but I still am not a fan. I would not have gotten into scion if they had not made the tC. And before anyone starts screaming.. I am not cutting down your xb ... they are a cool little vehicle if you like the styling.. it is all just personal preference.

I am dissapointed a bit that Scion cant be all we dream about it being.. but I do understand why it is that way. When you work in and with large companies for a while, you begin to see how hard it is to please everyone... hell even some of them!

IDK looks like they are trying a bit too hard with the 2011 design. The reverse lights with the taillights was WAY overdue but the front and back bumper is a stretch. Doesn't hit me like the xB2 did when I bought mine. This design will have to grow on me like the gen1's. Ask me again after I see someone mod it.

Not to go that much off-topic, but since some people were talking about the 2011 tC I wanted to post what I found.

I was looking around the internet to see if there was any information about it being at the NY Auto Show because I want to make plans to go if that's the case, and I found this article from Business Week.

New models such as the Sienna minivan, which arrived in showrooms in January, and the redesigned Avalon, which goes on sale in April, should help revive sales, Esmond said. Toyota will display new Scion models, the iQ and the tC, at the New York International Auto Show next month, he said.
So I'm going, and here's hoping! I got my tC in September 2004. It's still doing well but my 6 year 100,000 mile warranty (and loan payments) are quickly coming to an end, and I'd like to see what else is out there.

Getting back on topic.

I'm excited to see the responses to the new body style. That's the kind of thing that made me want to buy my first gen xB. There aren't many car companies out there that induce such a polarizing opinion. Like it or hate it, the fact that you would take the time to post up your feelings about the new style show that Scion is still evoking emotions in us.

Remember back to how many people were not happy about the Second Gen when it was just a rumor (myself included) and then the roar that went up when it was released. The throngs of First Gen owners who thought it was designed by the Devil. Over time the new style of the Second Gen was accepted and sort of grew on people (myself included).

Now many of those same people who shunned the idea of a new body style are slamming Scion for not going in a completely different direction and merely changing up the xB2 for the 2011 model year. I guess it's true you can't please all the people all of the time. Scion however is pleasing some of the people and I am one of them.

The comment earlier in this thread about an owner feeling that they must "defend" their car brand is disheartening to say the least. I for one will stand behind Scion and support their choices for models and styles. I will continue to tell people how much better I have been treated (both before and after the sale) by a company that sold me a $14.000 car. When was the last time you heard of any car company doing the things Scion has done for us? A trip to Florida, to Vegas, VIP seating at race events, car shows, concerts, dinners and all kinds of free schwag. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the countless admissions to Knott's Scary Farm over the years. I'm not saying that we can't have an opinion about the new style or that we should keep that opinion to ourselves because we got some free stuff. I am saying that I am willing to support rather than defend a car company that has done so much to support me and the community as well.

I'm anxious to drive the new model and see how much better the interior feels compared to the current model. I'm not saying I'd give up my First Gen but I'm liking the Second Gen more and more.

I like the new interior, and I'm sure the new exterior will grow on me. I'm glad the put a real clock in the dash. It's a pain to reach up and toggle through the readouts just to see what time it is (most head units are the same way; you have to go through a menu to get the time). No car company is going to keep the car the same year after year (Yugo did it 6 years in a row and see what happened to them!). If Scion kept the xB the same as the original, it's a good bet that sales will drop off. The designers are not ignorant of what people think is "good design" but must take in many points of view. What you see is the work of a whole room of artists and craftsmen cranking out many designs a month, tweaking this, smoothing that, to come up with something different that will sell. Being involved in furniture making, I can attest to the process of making a new design, or harder, working from an existing design and bringing new life into it.

Any word on fuel economy figures? Best I got was 30 in mines. I know blocking grills can give a few more mpg.

I like the 4th meter too on the dash, but I thought mid last year they decided all scions would come stock with the video head unit?

as a TC owner I have no experience with previous generations of the Box but I will say the interior looks miles ahead of the previous one but I feel sorry for anyone who paid the extra money for the xB RS7 as the new front end looks just like the front end on the RS7

I've been around since the very beginning, and I feel lied to by Scion. The original mission was to bring cool funky cars and give them short shelf lives so they stay original. It was supposed to be no more than 3 years. It looks like the tC will be in production for almost a decade. Customization was supposed to be big, but all we really see are stickers and stick on body parts. And then the reserve series have turned into a complete joke... the xB1 was ruined. And now the xB2 is heading off the reservation too. I feel as if the nobody in the company is paying attention to what the consumers want.

wrong, the 2011 tC is going to have the same front, but from the windshield back, it's the fuse design. i got my info from the north east regional manager.

Because the regional managers are the best resources for company news. . .

If all the middle management rumors were correct, we would have seen the Supra successor 5 years ago, a RWD ES 10 years ago, an xB pick up truck about 4 years ago, A REAL aluminum **** on the tC dash, a V8 Lexus IS (first generation) (turned out to be a 1 off rod millen thing), Lexus L-tuned(anyone remember THAT fiasco) would have offered REAL performance parts. . .

Man, I hope I'm wrong. From a consumer stand point, it's probably best to hope for the worst and be impressed by seeing something higher than expectations. At this point, the bar is really friggin low. I'd be surprised if the iQ is released for a REASONABLE, and not it's currently outlandish price (even sans import tax, it's available in other countries and it's NOT a cheap car). I'd IMPRESSED if they got their branding and marketing correct and released the FT-86 as a Scion. Talk about redundant image. . . I doubt the 50 year old Camry buyer is going to cross-shop an FT-86.

I'm going to stop ***sing and moaning about the brand. It was a bad idea to do so in the first place. But I know I'm not the only one who feels the same way. I just figure if enough people start complaining, they might start listening.

I will make my opinion now the front bumper looks jacked and so do those scoops, besides it make the whole front end look out of proportion, not only that the side front & rear fenders lines look messed up do to the adding on. Besides if you have the back up lights above why do you need two rear red reflector accept for beacons to show the rearend is sticking out, hope it comes with a backup beeper.

The interior fabric on the seats looks cheap and hideous, unless they are going for that who cares if something spills on the seat look.

This scion 2nd gen owner gives the 2011 two thumbs down.

DITTO! I too may not always agree with the Scion newer models, but they are different. may not be what you want, but it is different. The Tc change is long overdue, but not considering how long other models keep the same body style it too will change. I will continue to support Scion as long as they are around. I only do business w/ dealers who support my Scion philosophy. I too have been on this train since since the beginning(bought my xb on release day) and have seen many changes since. Those of us that truly support Scion will be here years after the majority of you have left the scene for a new Kia or Hyundai.

I still think this redesign looks badass. I like the front a lot. I think there's a lot of potential with it. I can see a lot of lower grille mods and the emphasis being placed on there. Or a sweet thin led being ran through the top grille. There's a lot of potential for this redesign, and I think you guys are being way too harsh.

I drive an 08. And the new xB owners will get... what, a better interior that I currently have? Sweeter seats, an actual arm rest that the passenger can use? And a telescoping wheel? I'm only 5'10", and I wish I had a telescoping wheel. I miss that feature in my '94 Acura Legend. It made my ride extra comfortable.

The only thing I'm not too crazy about are the reflectors in the rear. It reminds me too much of this car:

I wish the reflectors were rectangular; rather, boxy. lol

Oh, and is it me, or did that antenna get longer?!
