Default Almost at 50k. Need some info on parts

So i work at a scion dealer know (SWEET) had my car inspected for states. 2010 with 46k. As soon as the tech and i started poking around. we noticed that my axle (front is leaking) on the inside part. So when its time im gonna have them rebuild it. Need some brakes for the rear. He was all you really do drive the everliving ____ out of this car. Made me smile.

So im thinking of just getting new rotors anyways. slotted not drilled. 1. shave weight. 2. its time for em. Everything else is actually in really good shape. not bad for a car that lives in upstate NY through 2 winters and a crazy as hell driver.

So.

Who makes some inexpensive slotted rotors? I dont care for name brands or anything. Just something that gets the job done n looks good.

Does TRD still make the best Fat rear sway for us?

And i might run some new brake lines two. SS if i can. i heard those were really good.

My 2 cents !

If an axle CVJ boot is leaking a little grease, but isn't torn, just fix the leak.

You probably don't need anything more for the rear brakes than new pads, but if you do, then the fronts should need replacing as well -- rear rotors last forever.

Unless you're engaged in genuine racing, you don't want slotted rotors, drilled is much better for street use. And definitely don't get drilled and slotted, weakens the rotors.

SS brake lines result in a somewhat firmer pedal than OE rubber, the more tired the rubber, the more the difference. In my experience though, they have no bling appeal, only you and your brake technician will know.

The TRD rear sway bar remains well matched to the front suspension. If you go with somebody else's, install their front sway bar as well.

Ahh. thanks about the brake lines. I know someone was doing colors or something.

From what i coudl tell. when i look at the axle with the wheel off. theres a rod. rod goes into a (boot?) rubber thing. and there was some oil/grease? on that side. the tech was talking to the other tech he said it was on the inside?? iguess you can have a leak in and out?? He said not to worry about it right now. you'll know if it gets bad.

Sweet gonna look for ath TRD sway

Now on the brakes. i know S&D is a waste. Now drilled is nice and usually less weight. but i heard stopping power is greater and generally last longer with slotted.
Tried to find some info/videos.

Any suggestiosn on site that sells them and has good info for are cars? and yea i would get new pads too.

hope this helps:

http://www.buybrakes.com/e-mmyproducts.aspx

shop around, I think they do price matching...their shipping i think is high, but they are good company and good customer service. I have axxis deluxe pads on my Tc with powerslot or stoptech (not sure know ) rotors and they always give me the best prices on the axxis pads.

@CIONIDE: Not to thread jack, but do you have pics of your new ride?

Frozone: Which rotors did you go with on that site? I see the black ones in the middle of the page and they look pretty nice.

YES POST PICS.
Because I had over 98k miles on it. My 100k Toyota Platinum Care VSA was going to expire soon, and I didn't want to own it out of warranty. That VSA had already covered over $1500 of work that would have been out-of-pocket, and while I didn't have any of the coil/wiring harness issues, I would have hated to potentially come up with those $$ down the road. I still had 18 months of payments on the 2008 loan, and with the equity I had I was able to drop my payments on a new xB by $36 per month.

Additionally, the trade-in value drops considerably after 100k miles because Toyota can only offer a factory used car warranty (anywhere from 12k - 48k miles in length) on a Toyota/Scion with less than 100k miles at the date of sale. For many used car buyers the ability to have that peace of mind can be the difference between deciding to buy a car with almost 100k miles or not buying it. Plus dealerships like knowing that they have another source of potential profit on the used car sale.

No pics yet. I bought another CSM xB, and we all know what that looks like. So far I have swapped the 5000k HIDs in from the 2008, tinted the front door glass (darker this time, it matches the rear privacy glass), put on AVS seamless vent visors, and I'm waiting for Visual Garage to send my Shark Fin antenna back with a new 3M tape/gasket on it. I also have Tein H-techs sitting in the garage, as well as Tokico HP Blues that just arrived last week. Now I just need to get them on. I've also been thinking about what wheels to get, but I'm going to wait on the 17" vs. 18" decision until I feel how the new stiffer springs, shocks and struts ride. I think 18's look better, but if the ride quality demands 17's then that is what I will go with.

That pretty much covers it for now.

BTW, I will say that since day one I have been enjoying the more supportive seats, telescoping steering wheel, bluetooth connectivity, real dual reverse lights in the taillights, and finally having a real center console armrest!

You know, I feel like you might be missing a piece of your old xB. There's just something about saying good-bye to your old car and stepping into a new one. Sometimes I take parts of the old car with me, like having the old shift **** or anything you might be able to interchange. And this got me thinking - remember that feeling of how it feels on every drive and the bliss of that car experience? Who could forget that old armrest, right? Gosh I remember how awesome it was to have that kind of feeling supporting with you whenever you drive, because it stuck with you through thick and thin.

So I think you should take a part of that old experience with you. Get rid of that 2012 armrest you have. And when you take it out, what I could do for you is send you my old one, that way you can have a part of that old xB experience. And just send me your new one, that way we could trade it out evenly. I think it would be fair for you to share in that wonderful delight and take a piece of that soul with you. I figure it's a nice and fair trade to call us even for all the wonderful advice you gave me.

Sound fair?? Let me know!!!

Each front half axle has two joints, each requires a boot.

Don't go by hearsay, do research, I did and slotted is garbage for street. I'm talking about brake cooling as well as performance -- go drilled, not slotted. However if it's about appearance, go with whatever appeals to you !

@Frozone: Those rotors you have are pretty boss. Definitely post some pics so I can decide whether or not to buy them. I kind of want to see how that black rotor looks in person.

Yea i did a bunch of reserach. I like the look of D/s however im not a fan of drilled since that can potentially cause strucure problems. but more so i like the Dimpled slotted look. more pros then cons.

basically. price+look=happy frozie

Drilled by a competent outfit is not a structural risk (unlike drilled and slotted), however, what ultimately appeals to you is your business ! Enjoy your new brakes dude !
