Default Maybe not Bored

Take a day and ride with a cop. You might get a bit of an education. Do you know what criminals have in common with the good folks like you? They need transportation also. Let me give you a scenario. One of your family members was killed. He is now driving around. A cop sees a car with a cracked tail light. The driver is the killer. Lets go with the general public's attitude, like yours. Cant the cop find something better to do with my hard earned tax money. He should be looking for a robber, not a cracked tail light to harass the poor driver. Many stops and contacts result in very good arrests all the time. The persons that cry's about have a lawful contact with a cop is it ones who complains the most when he becomes a victim. Think about that one.

I can not begin to imagine the bull they have to deal with. I still chuckle when I think back to that episode of cops where a lady calls the cops cause a guy stole his crack.

Basically they do a psuedo type of test. THey are just seeing if you are up to anything. They look at your eye movement to tell if you are bsing, telling the truth, high or GUILTY or something.

You want a cop to dismiss you, soon as you see him or her, just say something like good morning, evening, etc.

Yep, you need to take a day and ride and really see what goes on. Even better you need to become a cop. Sounds like you would do a great job. You know what it takes.

He was performing a pesudo test, if you were quilty of something he would of seen it. Cops do have quotas too in regards to so many tickets issued, etc, just like most jobs have certain requirements. I work in a call center and they measure to 2 decimal places for most statistics.

I think you guys would make great cops and you can use your down time to harass honda owners.

How about this, next time a cop questions you about your car, take off running.

In Florida they can't give you a quota. It's against the law. But like any job you have to produce activity. They can't say "you have to write 20 tickets". There are enough traffic violators to write as many as you want. I can tell you many get stopped and would get a warning, but their mouth gets them a ticket. A respectful attitude MAY result in a warning. A BIG mouth guarantees you a ticket. As you can see by some posts, some are not smart enough to fake the respect to improve the chance of getting a warning.

I learned 20 years ago that simply telling the truth is the most respectful thing you can do. For example; when you get pulled over for speeding, and the officer asks if you know how fast you were going... tell him the truth, he already knows the real answer. If you tell him you don't know, then you will probably get the ticket, because he will feel the need to make sure you pay more attention. If you tell him a lower speed, then he will give you a ticket for either lieing or not paying attention.

This is true recently i was traveling downhill were the speed limit is 45 mph ( total speed trap) when i got pulled over by CHP. when the officer said if i knew how fast i was going, I right away said " yes Sir 66 Mph" it was weird he did not know what to say, I guess he had never gotten a straight answer before. I apologized and continued to let him know that I its hard sometimes not to go above 45 mph down this hill (West Covina Grand Ave. for all you Southern Cali residents) Long story short he let me go with a warning.

My experience is generally, if you treat policemen as fellow human beings, rather than cockroachs, they respond by treating YOU as a fellow human being, instead of as a felon.

If you screwed up, then expect a ticket, but if you treat the policeman respectfully, chances are any ticket will be low rent. As mentioned above, mouthing off is a superb way of getting every violation in the book leveled at you -- can you really blame the policeman for doing that if you give him/her a ration of s@$t?

I agree, fake it til the cop leaves, he has the ability even if he is not in the right to make your life miserible. Cops are generally nice people, its how you come off on them.

Where I work everything is reviewed and much like the capital one, I mean criminal one commercials where David Spade says NO, thats my job unless you got a good excuse. All request are run by a super and unless its a good one, the answer is NO.

I ve seen those speed limit signs that reflects your actual speed, I never see them with cops in VA. Its likely they single out the xb as its likely to get the radar return vs a small vehicle.

Anyway, here is a good story for you about bad cops. When I was in rehab, the woodrow wilson rehab center in Northern VA I use to get harrased by the security officers who had radar and issued tickets to the students at the local high school near by, vo-tech and something else. Needless to say powered wheelshcairs operated by disabled people outdoors is a reciepe for disaster, never mind other traffic.

I was the fat guy in the wheelchair and having zztop beard and hair to match I was a target of them. I may of been blind and disabled, but I still had to get to classes, hit 711 for some real food and go cruzing around the area from the local roadway.

I had many compliants on me, one day I headed to the drivers course and rode around there for lack of anything else to do. Needless to say, I was written up for riding on the vacaint driving course on a weekend.

The "cops" then started to track my speed, they had my wheelchair going 15+ mph. Needless to say, powered wheelchairs do not really go that fast 10+ years ago. I asked the head dude to radar me. He has to turn the gun up after multiple tries as it could not read me clearly and saw the same reading of 15 mph. He then followed me and found his car did not register my speed as it was sooo slow. CASE CLOSED from that point.

So yeah, cops can be difficult people to deal with. What got me was the fact it was ok for a blind guy to use an electric wheelchair, just the speed I was gong.

Geez, man! You were getting complaints of 15MPH with your chair? I'm typically easily over that on my bicycle, so any idea what makes a wheelchair a target? I see you're talking about security cops, but still -- geez!

Being in law enforcement, I would have to agree with you 100%. Cops aren't all mean ya know? We like fast cars just like the next person.

HOWEVER....front window tint...no front license plate... woooo, next time you're driving and see a bored cop, watch out. I don't think I've even seen front window tint before. You're sticking out like a sore thumb. A bunch of excellent reasons to make a stop.

Just be careful and be nice! It may help in the long run.

Thanks, I have some beefs with cops in my past ("professional observers/witnesses" well, except when it serves their purpose to make adjustments -- their recollection isn't necessarily any better than mine, but it's definitely more targeted at what they want to accomplish). Still, the best way to work with policemen is with respect. Fact is, they've got a job to do to, and they're perfectly aware of their unpopularity. Kind of a drag really !

WOW! that was a very ignorant statement! Next time you get robbed or get in an accident with someone who doesn't have a license or insurance, make sure you take care of it yourself, don't waste your time calling the police. Thanks for the support.. Jack@$$!

This really points how how we're just being ticketed for modding our cars, not for the actual mods. What if you had a turret mounted on top of the thing?

"No officer, it came stock from the factory, it's a special edition."

Cop: "Oh, in that case, what kind of ammo does it use? I know a guy that can get you some good armor piercing rounds. Oh, and get your tint scraped."
