BrakePad life?
#4
GOT PAD WEAR?
OK, this is kinda apples and oranges, but on my Gen1 2005 xB, I had my front pads (Gen1 rears still had drums) replaced at 68,000 miles. And they still had maybe 15-20% pad material left.
I drive moderately-to-hot highway (85-90) and city (5-10 over limit), but I most always downshift when slowing, so that saves some brake wear. BTW, some folks would argue that clutch life is thus shortened, but I've driven Sciroccos (Gen1), Toyota GTS coupe, GTIs (Gen4), and have never had that problem. In fact, when doing some engine mods on the GTI, based on pad wear and miles driven, that clutch lining would've lasted 450,000 miles! NOTE, though, when downshifting to slow car rapidly, it's very important to heel+toe/blip throttle on all downshifts to match engine revs to road speed. Otherwise, clutch receives big mismatch in revs and wear increases dramatically.
Anyway, just some personal observations from the "old Guys Rule" owner of a REAL xB,, the one-and-only original that came directly from the brilliant JDM bB. (no flaming, please, I just love my TCM toaster and everything about it, OK? so be kind to this Gen1 Sciontist . . .
