Canadian xB??
Hey everyone.
I'm from Ottawa Ontario and looking for an 08 xB. I went to my local Toyota dealership and they told me no problem they can get me one. All I have to do is build the one I want and he'll go to the Auctions in the States to find one that matches what I want.
Now, all I want is the base Super White xB with the upgraded head unit only because it has the pre-outs for my subs.
The reason for this thread is I can't get an insurance quote yet because it's not in the Canadian system yet and without a VIN number they can't do anything for me. I'm 22 and CLEAN driving record. What are some of you guys paying?? The other thing is can you change the speedo from MPH to KPH for us Canuck drivers??
Thanks for any help you can give!

Hi. I'm from Vancouver, BC and I imported a super white '08 xb from Washington a couple of months ago. I did it all myself without the help of any broker, importer or dealership. The final price is the USD->CAD dollar conversion of the cost of the xB, GST, PST and 6.1% duty on the vehicle. There is also a $209.00 (or so) RIV fee. I just got Canadian Tire to convert my lights to daytime running lights, but after looking at what they did, it would be pretty easy to do it yourself if you're pretty electrically handy. This is the only conversion you need to do to the vehicle to get it to pass Canadian inspections (both federal and provincial).
The speedometer converts very easily from MPH to KPH with the press and hold of one button.
The one issue you may run into is convincing RIV to allow the vehicle to be imported into Canada because it's so new. At the time I imported it, they had not yet evaluated any 2008 vehicle so only vehicles up to 2007 were allowed into Canada (provided it was on their admissibility list). I got around this by declaring the vehicle as an MPV (multipassenger vehicle) in which all 2008 vehicles that qualify as an MPV are allowed into Canada. RIV had no problems with this.
Once you have all the proper documentation and have passed all inspections, it should be no problem getting insurance. Your insurance carrier should be able to insure anything regardless if it's in their database or not as long as you have the proper documents.
Good luck!

Hey thanks for the info. But if you go back and read your post you forgot to put the final price you were talking about haha. I found a dealership in Toronto that imports them brand new and obviously does the DRL conversion to sell them. He has then listed for just under $24,000. I'm going to start being in contact with him to see what he can do for me.
Not to mention I'll be trading my Integra for it. Makes less of a headache for me trying to sell it privatly. And I just don't have the time.
Just going to make a few road trips so I can go test drive and really look at one before I make any huge decisions.
Thanks again for all the help guys

I deliberately didn't give my final price because what i paid for my xb will be different from what you pay based on whatever accessories you choose. Basically I left it open for you to do the math and figure out how much it would cost. But to make it simple, if you were to import a base xb with manual transmission, it should cost you no more than $21,000.00 CAD when all is said and done (not including insurance). If you were to import a base xb with automatic transmission, it would be no more than $22,000.00 CAD. This includes the RIV fee and the DRL conversion. Anything above that is the additional profit you would be giving to whoever you are getting to import it for you. It's up to you whether the extra $2-3k (or I've seen as much as $4k) they're making off of you is worth the convenience and service of having them do the work. It wasn't for me and I'm glad that I did it myself. It might be different for you, as it would be for anyone else looking to do this.
