They are used to prevent rock chips. But they do more damage then good.

umm yeah also if you are in a very sunny area. the rest of the car fades but the part under the car stays nice and shiney. where it straps on trends to get scratched.

your better off going the 3m protection film. if the car fades due to sun the part under the protection film does as well. but rock chips seem to be way less under with the film. it won't stop all of them. but the pebble type will ding the film rather then your paint.

Go with the 3M clear hood protector. I love mine. Easy to clean, hard to tell it is even there.

I've had one on my last 6 vehicles and not once did it damage the paint. They are great at preventing rock chips and keeping rocks off of the windshield. The flat nose on the 2nd gen xB is a rock chip magnet. I've never had the clear bra so I can't say how well they work but I'm sure that they don't help prevent rock chips on the windshield.

We get some trade in's here at my dealership that have the "Clear Bra" on them and they almost always look wierd and off color. If the car is white the bra looks yellow and if its another color it just looks discolored. The edges almost always have dirt build up, not a lot but its easily noticeable. If the car is more then a year or two old then it looks even worse.
The regular bra's, over time, lossen up and get saggy and capture dirt and debris under it. After a few hundred or thousand miles the slight vibrating of the bra on the hood with the dirt and debris basically sands down the paint job on your car.

go with a clear bra.

postman - you can find a clear bra installer near you by checking out this site.

http://www.clearbrafilms.com - just click on New York - there's a huge list of shops.

I installed the kit on our xB last night. Looks really good. Don't install it yourself unless you have installed paint protection film before.
