Checking out used 2009 xB, need second opinions before purchasing
I need some second opinions on a 2009 xB that I'm going to test drive tomorrow. My old car has 200k+ miles on it, and would cost more than it's worth to get it in shape to pass the emissions test in December. So I've been doing some research and decided that a used xB would be a good choice for a replacement.
My budget is 10.5k, so I've mainly been looking to score a good deal on an 08 or 09. Only problem is dealers around here are asking for 14-17k on those same models, which seems totally unreasonable (or maybe it isn't?). My plan was to wait until the very end of the year to save a little more cash and start shopping with the hopes of talking a dealer down to 10.5, but that's looking less and less likely the more I think about it.
Fortunately, I found what looks to be a killer deal yesterday. A highly rated luxury dealer reduced price on a 2009 xB to just under 10k. Cosmetically, it's the best looking car I've considered (new navigation/radio, rims, tires, pedals, K&N air intake system, other minor TRD upgrades).
But I'm still a little apprehensive about it. It's got high miles (78k) compared to most I've seen, it was in an accident that apparently damaged the right side in 09 (possibly during a dealer test drive), the CarFax report is the most confusing one I've seen, and the dealer who has it now picked it up at an auction after it sat on a big box dealer's lot for a couple of months. All of this makes me think that something has to be wrong with the car. Is 10k still a good price, or should I try to talk the dealer down a little more? Is it not worth the trouble considering the problems I pointed out?
Obviously, I'll have more insight when I test drive it tomorrow and have a mechanic look at it, but I just wanted to see what responses I might get here. Some pics below. PM me, and I can send link to ad with CarFax for more info.
