Do our motors come broken-in already?
Well you can believe whatever you'd like, but I believe the break-in period described in the manual is accurate, but there are other methods out there if you google search or even search on here I think.
yeah, you should definately break it in first. even if its not completely needed, whats the harm in doing it. just follow what the manual says, and take it easy for the first 1000 miles. trust me it will go quickly, and be worth it in the long run.
My break-in method that works well is one which involves revving it very high, etc. (running it hard) and this method only works for the first 20 miles. If the engine is already broken in properly by the manufacturer (and the rings have seated properly) then I don't want to do my method and realize it was a waste and I pretty much beat the crap out of the engine for no reason.
This is why I asked the question.
EDIT: Here's a link to what i'm talking about.

It works IMO. On my old car, between breaking it in with the standard method and this method my compression test results were much higher in the one using this method over the standard method.

yes, please rev your engine very high when it is brand new and hold the r's at high rev for a while, that will grind the machineing burrs inside the motor and trans into the internals really nicely and will properly reduce the lifespan of your engine.
seriously though no dont do that.... all auto manufacturers list the same break in proceadure for a reason.. they specifcally tell you NOT to rev high for a reason... so you dont beat the crap out of your new engine.. now if you want to, it's up to you... but we dont want to see you on here crying later about how scions are crappy unreliable oil burning p.o.s.'s..
most aftermarket cam manufacturers and drive shaft manufacturers will advise of the same break in proceadures...
