Not sure about the % but its def low. It was hard enough finding a nbm xb2 much less one with a 5 speed. I may have went auto had the xb2 came with camry 5 speed auto. The 4 speed was horrible when I test drove it back in late 2007.

I went with manual mostly because it's my usual choice, but the $1K premium for automatic prevented me from even considering it -- I'm very cost sensitive ! Glad to see some auto people have started chiming in !

Manual but I wish I would have bought an automatic. This gearbox and clutch are the worst I've driven. There's so much play in the drivetrain it feels like it has 300,000 miles on it(i'm at 29k). And the kitchen sponge motor mounts don't make it any better. :?

In fact, I liked it so much better with a properly adjusted clutch pedal, I shortened my shift lever making it better still . Then, given so much improvement, I decided to try non-yielding shift bushings and am very satisfied with having a Dr. Isotope Delrin bushing in my shifter fore/aft linkage -- works great (kept the side-to-side bushing OE since I prefer the feel).

Got the 5 speed to get better gas mileage (but the auto is no different) and to make it cheaper when I have to do a trans overhaul. The clutch is sensitive when starting if it's not pushed all the way in. Toyota, tighten up the shifter! Getting into reverse is a pain at times (shift back into neutral, cycle the clutch, then go back to reverse, meh!).

Don't know if the above stats are correct, but it's clear to me most people have no interest in manual shift. In fact, most people prefer absolute minimum interaction with their car, it's pretty much viewed as an appliance that gets them from point A to point B and allows them to be as smart or stupid as they are inclined en-route! That is to say, the less knowledge and sense of responsibility the better, to the average driver.

Manual for me all the way. Wasn't really an option as when the wife and I shop for cars we usually don't buy if a manual isn't available. Only exception is the Odyssey becasue they don't make minivans with sticks.
