Default Engine revving in 08 Xb

I just ordered my new Xb, automatic in silver with rims, radio upgrade (the cheaper one, wasn't much choice in that as it seems all the ones destined for the SoFla market have radio upgrades) and cargo mat/floormats, from Kendall Toyota/Scion...$20,686 final price including all taxes, fees, etc. (!)
I test drove the car (automatic) and had a question: it seemed to rev really high before switching gears...is this because of the larger engine? I haven't owned a car with this kind of engine before and was wondering if it is normal...thanks!

Was the engine still cold? Sometimes the engine revs higher to get the tranny temp up to normal

Yeah that is a definite possibility. Every Toyota automatic I have owned for the last 15 years has been programmed to do that. Once they warm up they shift at much lower rpm's.

Gen1 xBs do the same thing. They basicly start with overdrive off it seems, despite it being toggled on. Then after the blue engine temp light turns off it shifts.

I can't say how long it was sitting before my test drive...but soon enough I'll have my own and will know for certain how it runs!

Watch your RPM on idle go from a lil' above 1K when you first start your car, and see it drop to below 1K after a few minutes. That's why I warm up my car for a lil' bit before I go.

I was just test driving one, and i had the same problem...turns out I was in S mode (self shift) and not self shifting...so it would eventually shift, but resisted it a lot more.

It does this so that the engine warms up quicker.
