If they redesigned the pump (as in for real), why isn't there a new part number for the corrected pump? If I'm overlooking something, please point it out !

I did the same thing and got the same response. Fluctuating with temperature is one thing, going down is something completely different. The only conclusion I can draw is that the fluid evaporates over time. Maybe if you have it documented that you took it in before the warranty was up and it leaks after the warranty expires, they might cover it.

I am at 56,000 miles, so got to get it in there soon!

i took my 09 xb in for bad coils and pointed out the coolant level. told them to check water pump. they did and found pink crusts on it. first they said they wont fix its because its not leaking enough lol. i called bull____ and they fixed it. i was 4 inches below the low mark with 30k miles on it...if thats not leaking them im a ice cream sandwitch...

I bought some coolant and topped mine off the other day... Last time I took it in was two years ago for low coolant, and they found no leak. Prob just evaporation on mine. It only took a small amount of fluid to top off, very small.

I still want to look around though before I hit 60K, just in case. No pink line though, or no leaks I have seen.

Well my xB is now 4 years old and has 26,xxx miles and today the water pump and thermostat were replaced along with an oil change. Pump was covered but the thermostat was not. Just glad its fixxed and also hope the VSC, traction control and check engine light don't go back on. If so the n the MAF has to be replaced.

If you're getting a P0101 code for "MAF out of range" it can be caused by a CAI or other intake mods. It doesn't necessarily mean that the MAS needs to be replaced, although a dealer mechanic might think so.

If you do think your MAS is bad, try cleaning it first. Most auto parts stores sell MAS cleaner for about $5 a can. It's worth a shot.

On topic, I finally have the coolant line on my hood after 47k miles. What a great water pump! It's a very slow leak at this time but I imagine it will only get worse. I wonder if a water pump lube additive might help. Might try it.

As for a part # change for an improved water pump, there may not be one. If the supplier simply changed the seal material or design of the pump they wouldn't necessarily change the part #. Same pump, new seal, same number.

I'm just approaching 10K and the thing that concerns me is Toyota may have decided conversion to the 2AR-FE water pump may be an adequate solution to the 2AZ-FE pump problem. However, it's not clear they're compatible, and there's no indication the current 2AZ-FE pump incorporates a fix for the well reported problem.

nope, its just your typical sign of a blown gasket.....but so is smelling coolant when running in the exhaust. Sounds to me more like a coolant leak.

Well, a pink line on the hood liner above the water pump is pretty unlikely to have anything to do with a head gasket. That's the symptom of the problem being discussed in this thread.

Oh yeah, overheating can easily warp an aluminum head (happened to me before on a Honda Civic), can result in coolant leaking into the oil, and thereby screwing up various engine bearings. Major drag dude !

Anybody attempted doing this out of warranty? My xb is out of warranty and the pink line is getting more "severe" than what it was half a year ago. For those who took it to the dealer, how many hours did the job take?

I just had mine done at the dealership this week. Took them 3 hours. Mine was under warranty: 2008 at 46k miles. Be aware that they do not keep them in stock so you should ensure it is ordered prior to your visit.
