Default Hatch door open switch

I have a 2011 xB and I am having an issue with my door open light on my dash. It seems that when i am driving over some bumpy areas (like down my alleyway) my door open light flickers on and off at times. I have also noticed that, at the same time, the small light in the back of the "trunk space" flickers on as well. This leads me to believe that it has something to do with the hatch door.

Also, I normally park my car in the garage, but when it is outside in hot temperatures (80 and above) the light will stay on constantly until the outside temperature gets cooler.

When the light is on constantly i have checked all the doors by opening and closing them all, but nothing. This sucks because it also does not let my keyfob lock the doors. I have to do it manually.

I did take it to the Dealer, but it the light never came on for the technician, so he thought i was crazy.

My question is, where is the door switch located on the hatch and is it an easy fix? Has anyone else had this issue?

The door switch is integral to the latch assembly. You might try loosening the bolts holding either the latch or the stricker plate and shifting them toward each other so that they engage more fully when closed.

Pyroman, I tried pushing the hatch from the inside and it did not do anything. I even went around to each of the other four doors and tested out the other door switches, just to see if by pressing them, i might see some kind of fault. They all seem to work fine.

Thank you for that info Greg, I will give that a shot next.

Do you guys know if it is hard to take off that plastic cover for the Hatch? I mean, it seems that it is as easy as just popping some plastic connectors out and viola! Would that make it easier to see everything in the hatch, or should i not even mess with it?

You see, there in lies the problem... This issue is intermittent. I did take it to the Dealership when the light first started to go on; BUT, when i got to the Dealership they kept my car for 3 hours and could not re-create the issue and gave it back to me. They basically told me that there is nothing they could do unless I want to spend $300.00 for them to take it apart and look at it. This is why I am now looking into trying to figure it out myself. I still havent taken the back apart yet, but I will this weekend and keep you updated. Thanks for the info guys!
