keep ur foot out of the INJECTORS and u will get better mpg LOL, when i first got ,mine i was driving it like my TC, hard and ***** to the wall, and was geting ____ty millage, i slowed it down and sfit smother

 

For one thing, a CAI can hurt your mileage. More so on cooler days, why?

From an Engineering standpoint, in order to combust all the fuel brought into the engine, it has to be extremely hot, more then any car can reach. Which is why in a sense, letting your car warm up before you drive is more efficient. By using a CAI, you don't allow the engine to warm up as fast as it would without it, therefor being less efficient on it's use of the fuel and combustion of it. You bring cool air into the engine (hence the name) to enrich the engine with denser, cooler air, and although will increase performance, the engine will not be as efficient because of the temperature loss. Less efficiency = less mileage.

Probably is not a large factor in warm/hot area's, but cool and cold area's will be effected.

So in the end, CAI can effect your mileage. At least, from what I understand from a few engineering classes I have taken so far, if im wrong please correct me

 

Haha last time I filled up, I made sure the needle would go way past the E. I chickened out and decided to fill my gas tank. It turns out I filled up only 12.6 gallons. Damn still had 1.4 gallons .

 

I'm averaging 29.4 MPG over my first 1,500 miles, which was a nice surprise.

 

Does the new xB buzz as high as the tC on highway speeds?

80mph @ 3,700rpm in topgear?

Mine will run at around 2,700 RPM at 75mph. At 80mph, i would assume 2,800 most likely, nothing over 3k though!

 

Wow the 06xB turns 3060rpm at 60mph about 4200 at 80mph but it likes it that way.

 

i just put 1,000 miles on my xB. My average via the cluster is 30.5 I'm about 80% highway. I'm fairly happy.

 

Seriously I drive 75% highway and I still get a lousy 24 mpg if im lucky and 22mpg when I'am not. I kinda of got tired of driving carefully just to get a few extra mpg. BTW I currently have 1500 miles on it.

 

Mr Bigfiegoman the a/c coolant doesn't work that way (you cannot make cool !! all you can do is remove heat) the compressor, compress the coolant into a high pressure superheated gas that then go to the condensor coil which remove the heat. which lets the gas change states to a high pressure subcooled liquid, then it goes to a metering device which make a pressure drop to a low pressure liquid which wants to boil and the only way for it to boil is to absorbs heat from the inside of the car. after that the low pressure superheated gas go back to the compressor. and it start all over again. I hope this help you with your A/C story

 

Actually you are right, I was a little mixed up on the sequence of the cycle, it has been a few years since I took Thermodynamics. I know you cannot "make" cool, I don't read anywhere that I said that.

For the purposes of my argument, however, the fact remains that A/C provides a very real load on the engine and fan speed increases the frequency with which the A/C compressor cycles.

 

Just hit 900 miles today and I've been averaging a little over 25mpg with 60% hwy & 40% city/traffic. I'm sure if I was a little easier on the throttle I could get high 20's and probably hit low 30's with 100% hwy.

You guys need to add more air pressure in the tires - they leak all by themselves and can get low in a month. Guess there is a big difference in the 08xB with the bigger engine when it comes to gas mileage too. I get about double what you guys are getting and my lowest highway mileage was a trip to Maine and back the same day at about 37mpg and most of that drop was from the road pavement north of Boston which seemed to have a lot of friction and made a lot of tire noise.

 

I've been staying a pretty consistent 26MPG. I have about 32 miles of rural highway with 5 stops in a 10 mile stretch of that in which I go about 60 - 65 MPH. Then about 3 miles in city driving to get the the interstate in which I do about 40 MPH. The insterstate is about 23 miles in which I normally do 73 MPH. I don't accelerate hard most of the time but I don't granny it either.

 

I got 28.5 mpg on my first tank. 50/50

 

I am averaging 28.6 pretty steady doing mixed driving. Im pretty happy since i only got about two or three more miles per gallon more in my old xB.

 

Does anyone know if this is true.......that the XB2 has a 12 gallon tank or a 14 gallon tank.

On the scion webpage is says 14. I purposely ran it dam near dry and filled it up on 12 .2 gallons.

Can anyone give me any insight please.
