That sounds like what would happen if you used the AUX input and the headphone jack output.
If you use the docking port on the bottom with the iPod specific cable there is no need to mess with the volume. The head unit receives full volume on everything when you are using the docking port.
The only other thing that could be causing this is a bad track (or group of tracks) on your iPod. Have you tried various tracks?
^^ ditto! It should sound good if you have it plugged into the iPod cable. Unless you have a song that has a bad sound quality. I have a 06.5 and I

Especially how it changes colors. Hehehe.
Plugging it directly into the IPod port, I wonder if its because it may be playing just the audio of mp4 music videos that I have there and not mp3 files. I'll wipe it out and throw just mp3's and see how it works.
I just paid for a 21062 cable on e-Bay and am looking forward to running an iPod on my 2nd hand xB when the cable arrives. Nobody seemed to know what the cable was and I got it for rock bottom.
