Love my XB, HATE the material inside!!
Sorry to rant about our great XB's we all just bought but I'm getting fed up with the absolute LACK of quality on the interior of our XB's. The layout and the seats I love, the material on the dash, center console and door panels need to go and are just crap! Is it made out of cereal boxes?
Yesterday I made a big scratch in the door panel with an ENVELOPE! Yes...A paper envelope (the corner, but come on!) put a scratch in the diamond plastic or whatever that material is on the upper portion of the door panel and most of the dash.
If you allow the seat belt to retract by itself it will hit the B pilar and scratch it. My center console where you store I-pod and drinks has scratches on it from me lighty putting my keys in there and I have also seen scratches there from my fingernail (I keep my nails filed and short) Even my shoes have put scratches on the large cup holder on the door from getting in and out.
When I first got the XB I noticed that the material scratches REALLY easy but figured I would just be careful and now I'm finding scratches all over the place from god knows what. I bought this car for work and play but mostly for carrying around computer parts (I'm an IT consultant) and now I'm paranoid to even put anything in the car. I don't even want people riding in it because they will probably scratch something with there keys/purse/hair/jeans/breath/shoelaces
Please tell me this is just my XB so I can warranty this issue. and not all of them are having this problem. This is almost becoming a deal breaker for me and makes me wish I just got something different. I have had plenty of cheap cars and even the ford festiva I used to drive for Napa didn't have interior this cheap.
Should I try some amoral? I hate that shiny stuff, but anything to protect the interior would be great because I couldnt possibly be any more careful.
Dont get me wrong I LOVE my XB as much as my 400HP M3, its just such a great car to drive and look at but this makes me sad

Actually I've noticed this same thing with the interior on my xD. Mostly on the door plastic and the plastic things on the bottom of the inside door frame (the word escapes me).
Usually they will come out/buff out when I'm using my vinyl cleaner. The solution for the vinyl cleaner would make it shiney, but I buff it like no other so it isn't shiney when I'm done.

To keep the cost down, Scion uses cheap plastic, cheap carpets, cheap windshield glass (expect it to pit and crack soon), and cheap paint that swirls and chips easily as well.
One of the key reasons to buy a Scion is the great value and long list of standard features you get for the price. But unfortunately, in the end, you get what you pay for.
