My custom made xB2 arm rest...
Okay in disgust with the dealers $628 parts charge for the 2011 xB arm rest, I set out to make my own. Total price: $9. It works great! I can now rest my hand on the gearshift and offer a spot for the passenger. This swings up and down like the stock unit and I can still access the cubby due to cut out design! Sorry about the photo quality. I took them with my iPhone because I was too lazy to seek out my point and shoot.

This was my first prototype. I slimmed it down some from this photo.

1/4" padding wrapped all around.

Wrapped with 2 layers of fabric that I stapled to the wood base.

My view from the drivers side.

View from the passenger side.
I have full access to the cubby when the armrest is in the down position. In fact, the cut out allows me to buckle and unbuckle my seat belt easily too.
