My HID exploded while driving. Any recommendations for LED?
I was driving Yesterday and suddenly something smell very bad then I noticed I lost my headlights. Then I found out my HID melted. I took it out and saw it actually exploded. So had to take apart the front end to remove and the wiring and ballasts.
So now I am looking for some LED replacement. Anyone has a recommendation? I ordered like 5 different sets for my other car before, they all have spill light that's so bad that blind the oncoming traffic.
So I am just wondering if anyone has something that they are using that doesn't blind the oncoming cars?
If you're used to HID, going to LED will be a drop in visibility by a minimum of 25%.. they're not brighter.
That said, you want to choose an led bulb that more closely mimics the hotspot of a halogen bulb that the housing is designed for. Morimoto 2Stroke 3.0's are my favorite pnp led but I'd stick to HID here, just get some quality hid bulbs from Phillips or Morimoto.
Thanks for the recommendation. Those looks like some very quality bulbs. That's true that the hotspot of the bulb is the most important factor. I agree HID is the way to go but I want to avoid those ballasts and keep things simple. My car is getting old so I hope not to spend too much on it. I was thinking finding some Amazon stuff that are going for around $60.

Having had both HID and LED I can tell you HIDs are a big brighter. However, you also may want to look into refreshing your headlight assemblies. I had a huge difference in visibility when I've sanded and cleared the front headlights.

I get wanting to simplify.. but really you won't be happy with led. Plus it will be cheaper to buy new bulbs than it will be to buy a quality led kit.. generally you want to stay away from the amazon leds.

Thanks for the advise. I will look into that as well

I see. What's wrong with the Amazon LEDs. They don't last?

Just not the brightness and beam pattern you'll be happy with. Some of them can be fine for a fog light to get a color match, but I wouldn't want it for a low beam.
I even bought the high end Mori's for my new Tacoma and sold them after a few weeks because I was that disappointed with the output of led replacement bulbs. Multi-led specific housings are a different story. But for reference where I'm coming from, my tC2 has quad projectors and 2x mori 35w 5500k hid kits. Led bulbs in the low beams and fogs on the truck were still less bright than the low beams only on the tC.

The housing on the floor of the pic looks to be in pretty good shape. Don't think the OP needs to do that unless the other non-pictured housing is all frosted.
