Default NAV Question on amp and subs

From what I've read, the factory NAV system does not contain pre-amp hook-ups, correct? If that is the case, what do you guys recommend? Get the cheapie stock stereo, and swap it out for an aftermarket NAV system that has pre-amp hook-ups? Or is there another way to hook up a few subs (got two twelves that I'll be putting in there)?

If you do recommend an aftermarket NAV system, which one do you recommend and why?

I'd also like to put the monitors in the rear head-rests, so I'm open to suggestions there as well.

The NAV system I can probably install myself, as I imagine it's just like any other head unit (with an extra piece or two, and a few more wires). The monitors in the headrests are out of the question, no way I would do that. Amp and subs I'll do no problem.

All information and suggestions are welcomed. I don't know much about NAV systems or anything, so feel free to talk to me like I'm st00pid.

Thanks in advance.

Check out Pioneer Avic-D3. I have it with subs/upgraded speakers and amps hooked up to it. Great unit. Why spend 2k for a nav unit with just dvd playback when you can get a HU with Bluetooth/iPod/Satellite/DVD and preamps for about $1400 installed.

Thanks for the info. It looks like a nice unit. Will there be any drawbacks to that over the stock unit?

What about with the LCD headrests? Will you be able to watch a DVD on the D3 and on the headrests? I'm hoping that wouldn't be hard to hook up. Then again, I could get a shop to do it all, and still save money over what Scion charges.

Yes you can hook up headrests to the D3. I have a 32" TV in the trunk hooked up to it. If you do the SNS and the Scion 7" headrests your looking at $3600 vs. about $2500 for the D3 with all hookups and 9" headrest monitors.

Nice. Thanks for the info, man. Looks like I'll go aftermarket.
