A-Piller Creak - TSB # NV001-08
I perused the related threads but i didn't see if this had been posted yet. I stumbled over this when doing a google on the noise.
Notice the LACK OF WELDING to solve this problem.
I'm hoping this site works. It'd be nice if some one would post it as an attached file, i dont seem to have the ability.

You sir, are a gentleman.
-I downloaded and printed the pdf.
My xb was purchased June 07, but will need to check vin number.
-Because I was very annoyed with the creaking noiz, I had dealer check the noise soon after my purchase. Their repair order sez "no problem found".
-With this TSB in hand, I will try again with dealer.

Called my dealer and they havn't received the TSB yet. They want me to bring it in anyway but I told them im gonna wait for them to get the TSB. Id rather have them have the answer then for them to explore for it...
Im gonna call next week to see if they have it yet.

Another thing, is this fix a safety measure? I mean, if I don't get it fixed, it won't be a risk to me correct, just make a little noise?
I have the creak, but honestly, I NEVER hear it. Unless I have no radio on and nobody in the car, but that is rare. I always have the radio on
Seems to be alot of work just to crimp the steel plate. Here is the fix of the entire TSB...
"Approximately 10 – 15 mm (0.39 – 0.59 in.) forward of the 2 indicated spot welds, use
a punch to dimple the sheet metal inward 0.5 mm (0.20 in.)"
That's all. haha

Exactly what I was thinking! ^^
Not only that, I would be worried that they would somehow scratch the paint on the parts they do remove or during re-install the lines and parts would not fit back correctly.
I trust me dealer quite a bit, but this one just worries me.

So i checked my vin and my car was produced after the change was made, but i still have a creaking noise on the front passenger side, only when its cold outside though. I asked the dealer and he said it was probably just a piece of trim and that it would be almost impossible to diagnose, and he sent me on my way. So im not sure what to do.
Nice find Zlog.
There's gonna be some pretty upset "professional welders" when they find this out. lol
I am lucky enough to not have this creak, but if I did and were inclined to fix it, I guess I don't get the repair they put out.
After all that trouble for access why wouldn't you just drill two holes in the indicated spots and install a couple of 10-32 or 1/4-28 bolts with a fiberlock nuts. It would take 2 minutes instead of 30 seconds and be much more consistent than having service techs with a wide variety of skill levels smack it with a hammer and punch.
Maybe it's just the airplane mechanic in me.
I too would be uncomfortable with that degree of disassembly. Lots of opportunities to mess something else up for a problem fixed equally well by sufficient increase in radio volume. :D
