I am also running larger tires.....235/40/18's, so I am sure that has something to do with my relatively poor mileage.

fatter and stickier tires will affect the mileage. Also even if your rims weigh less, lower profile tires weight more than higher profile tires. They have more reinforcement and they definately weigh more if they are fatter. Another problem i imagine is rotational intertia. If you have more mass towards the outside of the wheel (ie super light wheels, and super heavy thin tires) you have increased your ratational inertia. So getting the tires rolling and stopped takes more energy. I dont know how or if this affects things but i think it is something to consider.

also you may have changed the rolling diameter of your tires from stock, at which point your odometer is no longer accurate.

I have roughly 27,000 on my 08 its 13 months old, i get roughly 24-26 round home, and 29-33 highway. I am not a slow driver when on the interstate i am at 65-80mph all times. I fill up around 350 miles usually take 12-12.5 gallons....

i've got 18k on mine, drive combo of highway and back roads 80miles a day and have been averaging between 33-35 for the past couple of months. This is by actual calculation, not just relying on what the computer says (though it is pretty accurate most times) i'm psyched! Not sure why some folks get low-mid 20's - must not drive wisely.

@ cobb
you cant trust the gas guage. Some cars go 100 miles before the needle even moves, some can go 50 miles after the empty light comes on. Its real easy to calculate your mileage. Just fill to the top, drive, then fill to teh top again. Keep track of the miles while driving, divide by the number of gallons you filled the car with.... yes its just that easy. That will tell you what mpgs you are actually getting.

Thanks, thats what I did with my xa and I just assumed since this is an xb forum, our cars were close to being similar in miles traveled with fuel position meter. Anyway, coming up to 200 miles on half a tank. Cant wait to fill up to get a reading as the meter says 28mpg.

Let me ask you, at quarter and half tank, how many miles have you traveled?

So far with a little over 2000 miles on my 09 I average about 22-25 mpg. I do tend to drive a little more aggeesively. All of my driving is a mix of highway/city. As far as not trusting gas gages, my 01 3/4ton suburban would tell me I got 100-110 miles on the first quarter tank than I'd be lucky to get 60-70 on the second quarter. And after driving my surburban for 2 years and averaging 10-13 mpg. 22-25 is fine by me. Not to mention having a 32+ gallon tank on the suburban.

Yeah, funnel shaped gas tank. Sure I am a fuel economy freak, but this car rocks with its leg room and height adjustible seat. Ive sat in a lot of cars and suvs and been very disappoints at the room or lack there of.

I just got the xa as I wanted a new car and no one at the toy dealer seemed interested in selling anything to me. It did what I wanted it to, but man I feel so much better when I drive and get to work or my destination. I am not sore, tired, stiff. In the xa it seems I was always gassing it to get up to speed, this car I am letting off the gas as I have already achieved the speed.

Cant wait til the first fill up.

The real time MPG was a real eye opener for me.
Didn't realize anytime you get frisky with this car, it drops down to 5MPG.
If all cars had that feature, maybe it would sink in that stomping on the gas wastes fuel in any car.

Yeah, its quiet jumpy. I wonder if manually shifting the tranny would improve it? Its amazing how much it jumps. Since its still new I just push the gas petal enough to accelerate it, like I did with the xa. It took me a few mile sto get rolling to and exceeding the highway speeds and upshifted while braking so the engine takes some of the load.

I had a scan guage 2 and it too jumped arouns, however it gave a read out at idle I believe or am I thinking of fuel cosumption. I know at idle the xa used .12 gallons an ihour, .24 with ac on at idle stick shift. When it was cold it was like .75 or so til it warmed up.

211 miles at half a tank and its starting to do down.

I couldnt wait and filled up today. 221 miles and 8 gallons til the 3 clicks and it was full rule. Now the meter is truely on full, they just filled it up til it was on full at the dealer, its past full now. 27 miles to gallons traveled. Not bad.

I almost immediately dropped 1.8mpg by going to a 225-45-18 tire on an 8" wheel. Im thinking of going back.

Range? It has a range meter? I ust learned the other day to set the clock and the instant mpg. I hadnt fooled with the rest of the meters.

The cruse is very agressive, wished that could be retarded as using it hurts fuel economy.

Mine usually shows between 344 and 355. My average over the entire 25k miles on my xB is just under 27 mpg. If you spend most of your time driving in stop & go traffic, or in the city, then your mpg and range will be lower.
