Default Post Your Relocated Plate Pics

Hey, wanted to relocate my plate, because I have to have one in the front in NJ, and want to see other options for where to mount it.

So post em up!

Personally Im not a fan of plates even if they are relocated, takes away from the design and is jus an eyesore... I say jus throw it on the dash so you can see it through your windshield...

The problem with just throwing it on the dash is that in some states like California they will still pull you over because it is not displayed properly. The thing that gets me is you never see a corvette Z06 with a front plate.

That's because if you can afford a Z06, you can afford to pay for the occasional "no front license plate" ticket.

I really don't understand why a front plate is even useful? Why do so many states still require them? Currently 19 states do not require a front plate. I never heard the authorities say they couldn't catch the bad guy because he didn't have a front license plate. In my opinion requiring a front plate is silly.

I found out that you can get away without a front plate on a car in CA as long as no mounting point is provided. Trick is to get the car from the dealership before they drill the plastic in the front, or find a body shop that is really good at working ABS and fill the holes and paint match!

I'd be interested in seeing that in the CA vehicle code, since I couldn't find it.

Display of License Plates

5200. (a) When two license plates are issued by the department for use upon a vehicle, they shall be attached to the vehicle for which they were issued, one in the front and the other in the rear.
(b) When only one license plate is issued for use upon a vehicle, it shall be attached to the rear thereof , unless the license plate is issued for use upon a truck tractor, in which case the license plate shall be displayed in accordance with Section 4850.5.
Amended Sec. 27, Ch. 594, Stats. 2003. Effective January 1, 2004.

if that is the motor vehicle code it does not specify where it has to be affixed except that both have to be displayed

You are correct, in California they both (front & rear) have to be clearly visible. Here is where they have to be displayed:

Positioning of Plates

5201. License plates shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle for which they are issued so as to prevent the plates from swinging, shall be mounted in a position so as to be clearly visible, and shall be maintained in a condition so as to be clearly legible. The rear license plate shall be mounted not less than 12 inches nor more than 60 inches from the ground, and the front license plate shall be mounted not more than 60 inches from the ground.
