Power Steering Outage
SO, this morning I was on my way to work. I got into my car and started it up and I noticed the power steering icon on the dash was on. So, I thought maybe it was just something electrical that was not right and the steering actually functioned properly. So, I go to pull out of the driveway and there is no power steering. I turned off the car and back on, and the light was still on. After the third start the light finally went away, and there were no problems after.
Coincidentally, I had planned to get my 20k service today, and I explained what had happened and the service rep, nor the mechanic knew or herd about this problem before. Has anyone encountered this problem before?
I love my xb to death, and have had no problems thus far.
Any ideas?

Yeah really wow! How long have you had your XB2? I've had mine since Oct and have 6k miles and I feel bad lol.
Hopefully this isn't a widespread issue with the powersteering (second one I know of reported here).

I had the same problem (see the thread, "Power steering failure") took it to the dealer, explained the problem to the tech, and was told they'd take care of it.
Later, pick up the car, and they tell me there was no problem, I imagined it. I reminded them that the tech who received the car from me saw the light on, and felt the lack of power steering. Then the service rep backed down and admitted to me that someone "in the back must have fixed it, but did not log the failure or repair." Duh...
That was about 6 weeks ago, and my silver xB has been just fine since then... but this problem that went away "by itself" will probably come back "by itself" so beware!
Seriously, if more of us who experience this problem get the dealerships to examine the car when it happens, Scion might actually do something to fix it!!!
I feel your pain! bye bye

FYI the first Gen xB had variable assist Power Steering and there have been times when I swear that I am loosing strength in my arms or it is not consistant in the assist that it provides.
i have had mine since 8/5/07 i am almost at 14,000 my step bro got his the week before he is at 17,000 right now, however we are both traveling photographers and have to do alot of traveling out of those miles at home prob 2500 max each are personal at home rest are highway for work.. but hope it all works out with the sterring problem sounds like a sensor prob to me
