I put together a little comparison of the power to weight ratio of the xB2 and some competitors.

This kind of lets you see possible relative performance. Note that there are many other variables that determine performance such as gearing, coefficient of drag, torque and etc.. Also this post is not intended to imply any of the other vehicles are reasonable substitutes. In my opinion the xB has no equal.[/table]

Area under the curve is more important than peak numbers.


Case in point.... Honda 4 cyl with HUGE turbo may make 500hp @ 8k rpm, but at 5k rpm it is next to nothing (turbo has not spooled yet). LS2 V8 from the factory makes only 400 hp, but it is a very linear power, with a much more usable power band.


But even with that said, going by your numbers, the xB2 has one of the best power/weight ratios of any of the cars you listed.

I wish more manufacturers would provide dyno charts. To me a flat torque curve is way more important than a high HP number.

I do mention torque in my first post.

My post was intended to give a rough idea what kind of performance you could expect from the xB2. Of course there will be differences. But since Toyota is withholding information to generate hype all we can do is speculate. I have driven a RAV4, a HHR and a Mazda3. If the xB2 has similar performance I will be pleased. For me this was a nice way to quantify the unknown.

 

I hope you are using weights for automatics, because they only had the weight for the auto 08 xb2 listed.

 

Yes, I did use the weights for automatics for all of the comparison cars as listed by edmunds.com.

 

now just imagine the xB with 320hp... the same weight... what typeof power to weight ratio is that?

We have the Mazda3 GT now, it's slow compared to my old VW 1.8t with a few mods hehehe (too bad it's gone now), but if you step on it and disregard gas mileage it's peppy enough.
I'm not getting the xB for performance, but at least it's nice to know it can get out of its on way now. I had my mom buy the 1st Gen due to gas mileage and comfort. I also knew that for her driving habits, almost all city, she didn't need the power. I drove it a few times on the highway though and saw where it was deficient, nay downright scary to not be able to move when you needed to. I'm glad they gave it a larger engine.
