Default Problems with Air to fuel ratio, MPG, and power.

Hey all,

I've been trying to troubleshoot this issue for a while now and I want a different opinion than my mechanic's. My car throws a code P071, running too lean (bank 1). My mechanic replaced what he called a 'purge valve' which I'm guessing is the PCV valve?? I'm thinking it could be A) fuel pump, B) fuel injectors, or C) the throttle body. I've noticed a drastic drop in my MPG going from 30 MPG down to 19.7 MPG over the course of a year. There's next to no power when I'm driving. It's difficult to get up hills in the higher gears (stick shift). What could it be?? Could my cats maybe be clogged? I plan on taking her to a shop once income taxes come in but I want an idea of what might be wrong with her before I do, so I don't get bull____ted into buying repairs I don't need.

PCV = Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve.

Purge Valve = Purge gas vapors out of the EVAP canister.

P0171 code. System Too Lean Bank 1...... accompanied with loss of engine power???

First thing I would do is replace the gas filter.
