auto or not? Are most of you that are getting EPA mileage just driving normal, or are some of you driving light and still cant beat the EPA number.s. wrczx3 - if you are only averaging 20mph then getting 24 in the city at a snails pace doesnt seem too bad.

when they switched back to summer gas (non-oxygenated) i started flirting with 30 MPG. with very minor changes to my driving style i am now getting over 32 the last 3 tanks. i live in the mountains so i have some hills. my daily commute is 110 miles of mostly 2 lane state roads and a few miles of highway. weekend highway trips shoot me back down to the 30 mpg area because i must drive 75 on the highway.

I'm pushing 6K miles now & I've pretty much nailed the car's pattern - if I drive it like I want to I get 24. If I drive it like the local law enforcement & my wife want me to I get 29-30.
That's with 93 octane. 87 octane results in about 3mpg lower across the board. We've got oxygenated gas here year round (10% Ethanol).
Considering EPA estimates are 22/28, I'd say I'm doing very well.

I wonder what my mileage would of been this past week if I didn't have to do a bunch of city driving. After my highway travels and some 200 miles into it, the computer was telling me like 35.7 or something, which would of turned out manually to around 33.X
But sadly I had alot of stop and go on the other half of the tank and got 29.9 out of it! lol
As of today, my average is 29.46 on the last fifteen fillups.

Invertalon - are you driving a manual? are you driving like a grandma? I would purchase an xB right now if i could drive it very conservatively and get close to 30mpg. My current car has responded well to my hypermiling and im afraid the xB wont so much. I should probably go to the dealership and reset the trip mpg, drive around town and see what i get.

AAG - hey you are in Dallas, how does your xB do in the texas heat? AC work well? Impact the mpg too much?
I prob shouldnt worry so much about its mileage. It should do better than my WRX but i recently started driving off boost and trying some other tricks and im now getting around 26mpg on my commute. So i would actually be bummed a bit if i wasnt able to get atleast 28 in the xB driving with the same hypermiling techniques. But in the end we are only talking a few hundred $ a year so no biggie.

As far as the gas mileage goes, I'll be honest, I get around 24 mpg but that is because I run it quite HARD. I have achieved 33 mpg all hwy before going 60 mpg so the xb can get good gas mileage if you are easy on it.

I actually drive an auto... And no, I don't drive like a grandma I just drive smart. I will coast to red lights, stop signs, etc... Use cruise as much as I can at close to posted speed limits (if its 65 I will go like 67 for example).
I also do mostly highway driving, I would say, 60% of the time. If I do it 80+% on the tank i will easily get 31-33.
But I just try to drive smart but one thing I don't do is slow accelerate. I will rev it up to 3-4 easy when taking off. I figure, it's get me to coasting speed faster ;)
Here is a record of my MPG and stats... Basically, the higher the average speed, the higher your mpg will be.
