Roof rack, Storage box or do I need both?
I have had a roof rack for most of the cars I have owned. Although I havent had the need to put anything on top of my xb, my passengers have asked I get something just incase. They have been talking about the enclosed shell type of container.
Ive seen those and sold a few when I worked at sears, but when I see them on a car they are mounted soo high on a roof rack. It looks like I need to buy both a roof rack, then the container, so its like paying twice.
Myself, Id like a rack like a load or mega load warrior about the surface of the roof and a cargo net to put over it, but those mount on top of the rack and too are lke paying twice.
Of course these are the big two rack manufactures yule or yamkia. I have seen some generic roof racks that mount to the car by glue or screws for less than a hundred bucks,
Has anyone here gotton a shell or load warrior? Do you like it, pros, cons? WHat about screwing through the roof?
Thanks.

yes you need to buy both. I have a load warrior, but I do not like it that much as it sits too high on the top of my car. I have recently switched to the basket case by yakima. i like this way better then the load warrior because you can mount it below the bars (vs on top of them) and its very low profile. (no the basket doesnt sit on your roof or touch it, there is about an inch of clearance)
Another good thing about the basket case is if you have bike racks you can mount the basket length wise and then mount your bike racks on the crossbar along either or both sides of the basket, still keeping a low profile.
Yakima BasketCase
Yakima LoadWarrior
there are tons of threads that detail exactly what yakima part numbers you need for the Scion as far as the racks are concerned.
as far as drilling...or glue. Thats prolly a really bad idea, there are easy and better ways to attach things to your car.
