RS 5.0 Leaking water into cabin - sunroof?
I searched on the forum and didn't see anyone else with this issue but I think my 08 xB is leaking through one of the seals somewhere. I first noticed it when I was installing my xm unit and I pulled the passenger side front carpet up and the pad underneath was slightly damp. I didn't think much of it until I was in the trunk and pulled out the spare tire and found about 1/4" of water in the wheel well. I pulled the rubber grommet in the floor pan and it drained right out but now I am wondering where it is coming from. I've checked all the seals and they all seem to be contacting the body. Then i was wondering if it is coming from the sunroof. When it rains, I've been feeling around on the inside of the sunroof seal but haven't noticed it being wet. Any ideas?
I would do that but the dealer near me is ridiculous. I have had the car for four weeks and after one week I noticed that a tire was leaking and that the steering wheel was off center. It had the 160 point inspection on it but the dealer said that neither is covered (I can understand that the wheel wasn't but was miffed that they wouldn't cover the alignment for me to recenter the wheel). Also, the service rep was a complete idiot. I asked him what the 19" TRD wheels need to be pressurized to and he told me 26 psi! I told him that wasn't right and then he tried to explain to me how putting any more pressure in it would cause it to explode if I hit a pot hole. I made him go in the back and ask and he came back and told me 38 without even an apology for telling me wrong the first time around. I'm leery to take it back there.
If the sunroof is the source of the problem, it's probably a clogged drainage channel, and so the water seeks another way out around the seals of the sunroof rather than draining through a channel designed for it. However, as the car is still under warranty, it's not really your job to fix it.
Any Scion dealer should be able to do warranty work for you, whether your Scion was purchased from them or not.

All right I figured it out...rear tail light was loose. The bottom two nuts were secure but the top one was loose. I had a 2mm gap between the seal and the body. When rain was coming down the inside edge of the hatch it was just pouring right into the tail light. Glad I figured it out.
