Default Scion Used car pring at the stealers

This was always the question for me when I snopped around toyota/scion dealers. Why the hell are used scions more expensive than the new scions? About a year ago, used xB was on sale for about 15k. Also when I was looking around for the new xB, the used tc was about 18k.

I just never understood why the dealers do this when they have the new car price sitting right next to it

has anyone felt the same way? or am i being crazy here?

I've noticed that too. I'm really not quite sure. It doesn't seem like good business sense, either, since who would pick a used one over a new one if they were the same price, or the used was more? Unless it's got extra accessories, there's really no reason for it.

I think that's because Toyota only makes i think they say 150k of each model and so there are not that many of them. Supply and demand so prices resell price is hight. The higher prices that I've seen is because the extra accesories.

can you haggle used car prices?

it would make sense to me to jack the price up so people can get a "great deal" and i could still get money in my pocket!

"this tc costs 18k but ill give it to you for...15!!!! thats a hugggge savings"

You got it.

And the dealers make more money off used cars than new cars. Way more. Just look at the difference between "trade-in value" and what the "fully-reconditioned retail value" is. There's literally thousands of dollars of profit in there.

So basically buy 5 new ones then trade them back in for more money. After awhile you should have enough to pay cash for just one out the door.

____ed me off too. i know KBB values are staying pretty high, which i like, not because i'd esll the car, but value you'd get if it was totaled from insurance would be nice.

but yes, i was seeing beat up used tCs on the lot for $18k when i could buy a new one for that much.

tCs sell like hot cakes.

Also, people with crappy credit are stuck with expensive used cars or they wind up paying a Lancer EVO price for a brand new tC.

Bad credit, been there, done that. I was raped numerous times by ridiculous APRs. 17% on my Corolla 4 years ago. But after got my act together, built a better credit, I have a 5% APR on my tC.

Congrats on turning your credit around. Most people have no clue how important credit ratings are.

you also have to remember that when the first gen came out there was a 3 or more month waiting list to get one,,, I had to wait over 3 months when i got my 1st gen, So people that are impatient are willing to pay more not to wait,, when I got my 2nd gen I just walked on the lot and brought it home the same day.
