so now i asked to see if they can check the cars systems. VCS and traction. since neither kicked in. im curious to see if maybe there was a fault there.

Ive rebuilt more then one car that seemed totaled and your car doesnt look beyond fixing.

if the the bags didnt go off thats even better because that means the frame most likely isnt tweaked

I'd say it's pretty much "toast".

Sorry FroZone, you know me... I had to say it.

Darn, that's incredible. I'd never have guessed an accident like that would total a car. Of course, I wouldn't have guessed that a scrape down the side would cost 12K to repair either.

My 1990 Eclipse looked pretty bad after it slowly (inexorably ) slid on slick snow into the spare tire of a stopped jeep a few years ago. Wrecked the nose, hood, right fender, a few under the hood components (radiators, air can, etc), and the repair cost at what's probably the area's most expensive shop was about 4K (out of my pocket, of course )! However, the repair parts came from a junkyard, not the parts counter.

I've the suspicion what totals a newer car is not the amount of damage, so much as the source of the replacement parts . Well, hope you're given a generous allowance for a fresh set of wheels !
