Most times the inboard pads wear more than the outboard and they are harder to inspect, especially if you don't remove the wheel. If its a high pitch squeal, its the low pad indicator hitting the rotor. If its a low squeal, sometimes its just dirty/dusty. When pads get old they tend to flake on the edges, this causes squeaking as well.
