Default Steering Wheel Mods

Are there any steering wheel mods out there for the 08' XB?!

In my previous thread, I asked if I were too tall for this vehicle... Well, the answer is no... The seat goes back far enough and is adjustable enough to accomodate my height, but the damn steering wheels completely SUCKS. Why they would only allow you to physically move it up and down an inch is stupid. Toyota has always built a quality product but they should have put more thought into this portion of the vehicle.

The damn steering wheel drives me freaken crazy and it's gotten to the point where I'm ready to trade this in for something else unless I can completely swap this wheel out for one that has more adjustments (specifically a telescoping feature)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Keep in mind that you bought a cheap ___ car that has some impressive features for the price. I kinda wish the steering wheel was more adjustable too but considering all the things I got for my money, it becomes a non-issue for me.

It wasn't so much the price that got me to buy this car. It was it's massive interior room and rear seating...

It delivers on what you bought it for. It seems silly to me that you are so concerned with the steering wheel. If it was such a big deal, why didn't you notice this when you bought it?

It didn't seem to be that irritating at first, but the more I drive it, the more uncomfortable it is. For a comfortable seating position, i have to hold onto the bottom of it.

The point is that Toyota screwed up on the design of this steering wheel. I haven't had a steering wheel this rigid since my 1978 MGB...

Well, what exactly is the problem? You mentioned that the wheel is rigid. Steering wheels are supposed to be mounted rigidly. If you meant that it's grip is pretty rigid, this is true (and lol @ MGB statement.)
As far as the grip is concerned, the optional leather steering wheel is probably more plush. Another option would be to ditch the OEM wheel and airbag and get an aftermarket unit. Not exactly the safest thing to do and in some states is regarded as illegal, IIRC.
I'm 6'2" and I have to grip the bottom of the steering wheel, as well.

I do that as well. It doesn't bother me because I'm driving an xB and not a performance car.

Buy a Hyundai Elantra. I think it's the cheapest car sold in the US with a telescoping steering column.

I'm 6' 1" and the xB's steering wheel is perfect for me.

Either lower the seats (or go with aftermarket buckets that mount lower)... or get a smaller aftermarket steering wheel with a hub that allows you to change the length, or both.

Eh, i'd say overall that it's the angle that's not right and the damn thing sits too high to provide a comfortable grip.

The wheel angles up toward the dash at like 12 degrees. It should be more straight up and down, or have the ability to be angled in the opposite way.

When i said "rigid" i meant lacking multiple configurations.

I don't follow. I have my seat raised to the top and the steering wheel isn't too high for me. How tall are you? Do you want the wheel to tilt further up or down?

It needs to tilt further down. I'm 6' " tall and prefer having the seat all the way down and kicked slightly back. This places the wheel too high.

If I move the seat all the way up, my legs are uncomfortable.

Putting the seat down and tilted back is uncomfortable for me. That places all of my weight on my ___ and lower back, and makes me hold my neck forward while driving. Try tilting the seat up so that your weight is supported by your ___ and legs and your spine is close to straight up and down. I can drive for very long distances with no fatigue.
