Default Toyota Service Manager said no need to replace

So I went to my local Toyota/Scion Service to make an appointment to replace my Timing Chain, Water Pump and Drive Belt. Toyota Service Advisor Manager said “No need to replace the Timing Chain or Water Pump unless is leaking”. So I went home and the next day I saw the Assistant Service Advisor, he said the same. My Scion has 146,580 miles, and now I don’t know what to do. Any ideas?

You can call another dealership and ask them for their opinion, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it?

Thats how the dealer sees it. Kinda like when my GF asked when to change the plugs they said 90K miles.

Id at least change the water pump & drive belt at that mileage. Timing chains usually last for a very long time. Actually I'm more concerned over the ATF fluid than all those.. lol

There is no recommended change interval for the water pump or timing chain on the vehicle. Scion would recommend replacing these parts if, upon inspection, the dealer finds either to need replacement such as a leak in the pump or issue with the chain. Other than this, these parts are only changed as needed. ^AP

I would do it myself if I could, I try to do anything I can. I know what you mean Jetas about the spark plugs! When I told the Service Advisor this is my fourth set of plugs, he looked at me like I was crazy. I already have replaced the manual trans gear oil. I have noticed extended start, I first I thought it was the battery. Now I am sure it's because the timing chain has stretched. Although my car seem good.

the tC has iridium spark plugs, so they're change interval is 100k miles.

Timing chain should last the life of the car and most cars with timing chains go into the scrap yard with the original timing chain.

The water pump is another thing. You should not replace it unless there is a problem with it(leaking/noises etc) but Toyota is not known for a good water pump(especially on the 2.4) so I don't see how it would hurt to preemptively replace it except in the wallet
