What will replace the xB2s for 2011?
The gen2 will not be replaced in the near future. The TC will be no longer scion it will actually be a cross between the mr2 and the current Tc with the the toyota brand and will be replaced by the IQ this is direct from Scion guys lol.
Really? That sounds pretty intriguing. And they are going to take away the tC and put in the iQ?
Hi guys
! I just want you to know I've nothing but respect for the original xB owners and am always excited to see their vehicles on the roads (a rare occurance for any Scion in my observation in my area).
Still, I can't help but consider the xB2 to also be a valid Scion vehicle -- after all, it works for me
! I really don't comprehend the resentment felt by many original xB owners (apparently) towards the new incarnation. I agree, it would have been nice if the nomenclature had changed too, but why is that critical? The original xB was and is a darned good vehicle! However, it just so happens the new generation xB is also a darned good vehicle. Can't we just leave it at that? Both have advantages and disadvantages, both have real value and neither is worthy of disdain. Can't we please just enjoy the vehicles we have, and accept the vehicles we're not appreciative of?

Thou art thyself, though not a xB.
What's xB? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a bB. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? that which we call a xB
By any other name would smell as sweet;
So xB2 would, were he not xB call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. xB, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself.

Here's the topic of the original post.
Let's try to keep the thread within this idea, and not turn it into an argumentative disagreement about what is or is not an xB.
(Yes, disruptive posts were scrubbed...)
What will replace the xB2s for 2011?
Just curious because 2010 will be the 3rd year and Scion seems to replace them after that. Any ideas?

I for one would love to see the open deck treatment for the xB2. We've been asking for a mini-truck since 2004 and that's the platform to do it on.
To answer the side discussion, I think 1gen owners don't like the new xB because they wanted Toyota to import the new 2005-up bB, not a rebadged Rumion. Continuing the 1gen probably didn't make business sense for Toyota since they had already rolled over to the new version for the domestic market, meaning they would need two lines open for the same car. I don't see what all the fuss is about though, if you don't like something, don't buy it, and let those who did be happy. I own two 1gen xB's, if I could have found the 2gen at anywhere near the price of the 1gen used, I probably would have switched. Would love to know how the one guy found one for $11k, couldn't even find a used Yaris for that on a dealer lot. The RS7.0 had me considering a trade-in for a sec, but I don't need the extra car payment.

yeah, I get those notices too. We'll pay you full price.... minus $0.40 / mile. On my 95k mile xB, I'd end up paying them money to take it. Really hate misleading advertising.
On topic, with the iQ coming out does this mean they're having 4 cars in the Scion lineup now, or is the xD getting dropped?
Let's try and keep the board clean, don't want Tomas wearing out the delete key.

From what I hear from dealer folks the IQ is "in addition to" the current lineup, but no one can say that with absolute certainty.
All they feel sure about is that the IQ isn't a replacement for the xB2.

Just read that the Toyota Avensis, which the tC shares a frame with, was updated for 2009 and is no longer common with the tC. Given that the new tC will hit in 2010, the safe bet is to watch when the Rumion switches chassis and add a year, that's when we'll have a xB replacement.
Just a minor adjustment -- Scion didn't rebadge the Rumion, the Rumion wasn't introduced in Japan until the end of 2007, whereas the xB2 was introduced here six months earlier. As far as I've been able to determine from info on the net, the xB2 is a combination of the earlier 2005 bB/2005 t2b concept car/and the collected inputs from original xB customers. The Rumion simply adapted the xB2 for the Japanese market.

The Rumion simply adapted the xB2 for the Japanese market.
The xB2 was developed to respond to the answers Scion consistently got to the "What should we change?" and "What did we get wrong?" questions they repeatedly asked of those who bought and almost bought the original xB. They wanted to be responsive to their customers.
By asking those questions, what they got were the answers from those who were dissatisfied with the original.
They did not ask for nor get answers from those of us who WERE satisfied with the xB City Car or Urban Utility Vehicle (UUV), and simply wanted it updated as it evolved. Those were the customers looking forward to the next bB version being brought to the US market.
Instead of getting the next gen bB (or Materia) as the continuation of the xB genotype, we got the vehicle designed to please all those people who were not happy with the City Car idea and wanted a Freeway Cruiser.
Scion and Toyota took a big chance bringing the first UUV (the original xB) into this market, and it was a success - it was the "Iconic Scion" to many.
The problem with what they brought out next is that they abandoned that City Car market they had created and left those City Car owners nothing to move to should they need a new one.
Scion/Toyota was amazingly good at listening to the answers to the questions they asked, and developing a vehicle that very closely matched what their potential customers said they wanted: The xB2.
That did, however, leave out in the cold those people who had bought into that new market niche they had developed - the City Car / UUV vehicle: Small engine, nimble, excellent visibility, tiny on the outside, large on the inside, and able to swallow amazing loads and zip around in city traffic.
The xB2 is an excellent vehicle and a great value, and is designed to meet the need for a reliable, inexpensive freeway car for the wide open spaces of the United States.
Now that we understand what happened, and why we got the xB2 instead of the Materia, we need to pay attention when Scion starts asking questions again. We just might be designing the replacement for the xB2 with our answers.
Maybe instead of asking what the replacement will be, we should be discussing what we would LIKE it to be...
(...and I'd still buy a Materia tomorrow morning if I could: My need is a City Car, not a highway car, and the only ones on the market in the US right now are the Nissan Cube and the Kia Soul - neither of which is a Toyota.)

My wife told me the other day she would like a Cube to replace here old 96' Sentra when and if it ever dies. I'd really love to be able to import the 3rd gen bB for her if it were possible. Who knows, maybe it will happen?

I hope they kill the xB name completely but they bring something similar to the xB2. And also bring a replacement for the xB. Something small and boxy, preferably the Materia. Five doors and sexy as hell please.
