Okay, what the heck is this?

it's connected the intake, but nothing else runs to it...is it some form of intake resonator/muffler? I think I shall be removing it as soon as i find something to plug the hole...

 

Exactly, it's a resonator to tune out noise from the intake.

Coolant container caps or the 5 qt oil container caps work. I couldnt tell much noise difference, maybe with a K&N drop in? I have a HPS CAI now.
