Default What's the difference between 40mm and 42mm offset?

According to rims-n-tires.com 42mm offset is too high for my 08 XB.

I am really confused!! I thought I have to have at least 40mm offset.

Please help me clear this question.

Thanks in advance.

Sam

It depends also on the width of the rim that you are using. If you go too high, then you have issues rubbing on the inside.

What is the width of the rim and tire size you are looking at?

Sorry to threadjack, but this is what i wanted to know as well. I am looking at 18's 7.5 wide with a 40mm offset. Will these work, and what tire size is okay to fit in there. Thanks.

I'm going with 16 x 7 rims offset 49 mm, using stock tires...I'll let you know for sure next week...I was told by a Scion parts specialist, they should work fine. Should move the tire towards the inside of the fender well area about 1/4 inch.

TRD 19" wheels have a 49 mm offset...

Checked the Tire Rack site for a 06 Toyota Camry with the same rims I chose WedsSport SA-90 , Tire Rack site said the wheel and tire combo would work on the Camry..

with only a 7 inch wide rim 2mm more positive offset will not do much of anything . at the VERY worst case you may get rub at full steering wheel lock , but that's VERY unlikely.

Sam try the link above. The exact wheels you have listed are not there, but all of the 16x7 5x114.3 Helo's they have list show 38 offset.
As stated, probably OK especially in the 16" size.

How can this be?

There are some pictures here:

I don't see anything that anybody actually says is above 40 when I check the threads these came from.

Bottom line 40 offset definitely works. With 42 offset you are talking about 0.078740 inch further with a 16" wheel without the car being lowered. Some with more expertise than I can step in here, but that looks like it should be no problem.

I went to the Tire Rack and put in the info for a 07 Camry in 16 inch rims with 205/55R16 tires.

Out of several wheels listed, I chose a WedSport SA-90 16x7 wheel with a 49 mm offset. So I ordered them for my new 08 xB.

Looks like Stock wheel has a offset of 38 mm on a 16x6.5 inch rim.

well what if your wanting to go bigger than 16's say 18's or 19's I am looking at a 19 x 8 or 19 x 9.5 inch wheel where the offset is adjustable (meaning you can order any offset between +20 and +45) what would be recommended........sorry to jack

I was told the TRD has a 49 mm offset and they are 19x8, I think. I would suggest to go with 45mm to pull the wheel inside more to allow for the wider tires on the outside...

Anybody agree? I'm not and expert..
