Default xb2 Problem

Oh well after 4 months a problem showed up in my 2008 Silver xb. I got ready to go to lunch from work, slid the key in the ignition and it would not turn! Living alone with no one at work living close to me, my first thought was, "How do I get home?" Well at least the dealership was closer.

As I sat there staring at the key and trying carefully as to not break the key off, still no go. To make a long story short after inserting and removing the key a few times. I felt a slight resistance and the ignition switch turned freely and the vehicle started. Must have been a small metal shaving from the key in among the tumblers.

If that is the only problem I have with the xb I am going to be very happy!

sure it wasn't the column lock blocking the key from turning? did you accidentally move the steering wheel after you turned off the car last?

That does sound like the column lock.

If this should happen again try jostling the steering wheel side to side a bit before trying the ignition again. Sometime the lock can be a bit too... enthusiastic.

happend when i first bought my car. 1, i forgot to take off the e-brake, 2, i forgot to press in the clutch, and 3, when it locked up, i told the dealer "you sold me a lemon!, this car doesn't work!". Then he started it for me and took it off the brake and told me how to start my car correctly. I felt like a total dumbass....

That's the steering wheel lock. Happens to me in every vehicle I have owned from time to time. Just turn the wheel a bit next time, it will unlock.
