Default Yet another problem with my xb2...

Problem # 3 since I've owned it and I only have 32k miles on my xb2

The center a/c control **** (the one that controls a/c speed) no longer stays lit unless I take my fist and give it a wack! Does anyone know if this is covered under the bumper to bumper warranty?

I'm really upset because this is just unacceptable to have so many problems with a fairly new vehicle imo. The only thing that keeps me from getting rid of it is reminding myself I have a first year production model and these things do happen. Lesson learned, wait for the 2nd or 3rd model year before purchasing a vehicle.

sounds like its just a loose bulb in it; should be covered, else just take the dash off or pull the **** off and check the bulb

GQQSE is right. A loose bulb is all it is. If you like DIY it is a pretty simple adjustment.

That repair would be covered under your bumper-to-bumper warranty.

From the title of this thread, I thought your problem was serious! That's a quick fix that you can do yourself.

I know it's not serious but when you've had two prior problems (water pump & engine harness) you start wondering if this is just the beginning.

The known speed sensor and electric steering failures from other xb2 owners worry me especially being 3k miles from being out of warranty.

For about $800 you can get the 7-yr 100k Toyota Platinum extended service contract with 0 deductible from Troy at Greenfield Toyota in Massachusetts.

I wish I had before I reached 36k.

I've seriously thought about it ever since the water pump failure. Cionide do you have any contact info for the rep?

There are a variety of year and mileage combinations that can go as high as 8yr/125k miles. When I bought mine a little over a year ago I went with the 0 deductible Platinum (better coverage than the Gold) 6yr/100k for $750. IIRC the 7yr/100k was $810 at that time, but I put too many miles on for the extra year to be needed. I never asked how much extra the 125k would cost, but now I wish I had, just for the extra peace of mind. All that was necessary was a copy of my registration to confirm year & sale date, and a current dated photo of my odo showing total mileage. (Oh, and a credit card.)

BTW, you have to buy it before the earlier of the 3yr/36k original bumper-to-bumper is up.

You also have to pay out the ___ for all the services Toyota makes you get with the 100k warranty. My folks have it on their xB2 and the dealership makes them pay for every service. If they do not get every oil change done and service done with Toyota, they will void the warranty.

Completely false. If that was the case they would have voided my warranty and wouldn't have fixed my water pump and wire harness issue because prior to those two visits, my xb2 has never step foot in a dealership (I do all the maintenance on my vehicles myself).

They didn't ask for any prior service records or anything even though I do keep all my receipts of everything done.

Here's what it covers:
http://www.toyotafinancial.com/consu...S_Platinum.pdf

The one requirement listed in my contract is that to the extent possible, the dealership is supposed to get the covered work pre-approved, just like the regular warranty. Even this can be waived if for example the work is of an emergency nature (cooling system or faulty brakes for example), needs to be performed immediately, and would have otherwise been approved anyway.

Geez, I'll be through the 3yrs come Feb 2011, yet I've still under 5K on it. I'm thinking my best bet is to learn about the issues as they crop up and allow time for aftermarket solutions (such as, hopefully, a water pump) so I can correct them myself for relatively cheap .

Hey Trevor, just wondering, do you drive your car or just park it and look at it? I think my grandmother drives more each year just getting her groceries and going to church.

J/K, i'm glad you are able to keep the miles down, I've recently just purchased a 13 year old truck to drive because i felt i was putting too many miles on my xb. I wish I was in your position for sure though.

Yeah, I know, it must seem pretty ridiculous. I bought the xB2 after my nineteen year old Eclipse died, and then I was switching regularly between it and my bicycle for a while. However, after I managed to get the Eclipse running again, it's only seen occasional use, though the modding has been pretty much continuous ! Funny thing is, outside of speakers, I never really modded until getting the xB2, but now the Eclipse gets mods as well !
