I would like to go with the 18x8, possibly with a 235/50 tire if that wont rub...
Those Tenzo's are available in +25 +35 and +45 offsets.
If you don't lower your xB you should be able to run the +45 offset with 235/45-18 tires, but 235/50 is too big (almost 2-1/2" larger diameter than OEM).

So then if I went with 17x7 would I be able to go with 225/55 or would 225/50 be as big as I could go?

Also it lists 42 offset as the only option on the 17x7. Would that make my wheels look too deep in the wheel well/not come flush with the fender?

17x7 +42 would be about 3/8" closer to the edge of the fenders than stock, but would still sit back from the edge.
You can't go with the larger diameter tires you want, and push the wheels out flush; doing that would rub.
You have to stay tucked back under the fenders to run the larger diameter tires.

225/50-17 would have the same sidewall height as the stock 205/55-16's, and be an inch larger in diameter.
225/55-17 will probably fit also, but you're getting a pretty large diameter (2" larger than stock).

Well, overall now im thinking the 18x8 with 45 offset and 235/45 tires is the way to go.

Any suggetsions on a tire brand, and the cheapest place to buy them?

Also, forgive me for being completely new to...well...cars......but, this basic concept has crossed my mind: If I have those wheels and tires on, and im turning and I hit a bump, then when the wheel is sticking out of the wheel well and only has an inch or two of clearance, isnt the tire going to hit the fender/wheel well?

Good question, but you'll be fine. 18x8 with 45 offset and 235/45 tires, on stock springs, will only protrude 1/8" more toward the outer edge of the fenders than the TRD 19" wheels, and will give you almost 1/2" MORE clearance around the radius of the wheel well, than the TRD 19" tire & wheel combo on TRD springs.

This is the cheapest place I know of online for tires:

Ive been looking around online and I havent even seen Nittos or Falkens in a 235/45-18. It must be a rare size. I did come across some cheap Nankangs on ebay, but I assume they must not be very good at $274.00 for 4 of them.

Any advice there?

235/45-18 is a less common size. Nankangs are cheap, and that is the ONLY thing they have going for them.
I wouldn't think of going with anything less than Kumho Ecsta or Nankook Ventu, and for only a few more $$ I would recommend stepping up to the Yokohama Avid W4S or even better yet the Toyo Proxes 4.

nice choice in rims iamham.

My concern is that with your choice of tires, you'll be filling in the fenders by 2/3" compared to stock, but you'll also effectively be lifting the entire car another 2/3" off the ground. It might look like a monster truck. Of course if this is what you're going for than I can't say much else. Good luck regarless and post pics when you get the rims!

This will give you a bit of an idea what it will look like. This xB is on OEM front springs and 1st-Gen rear springs, so the back is more level.
The tires are 215/55-17, so they have almost the exact same outside diameter as the 235/45-18's, and a 1/2" more sidewall height.
This means they raise the chassis the same 2/3" that rockthebeef is talking about.

I think the front looks fine, but with the stock xB2 rear springs it will still have the jacked up appearance that it has now, just a little less gap.
You may decide after putting the tires & wheels on that you would like to find a set of TRD rear springs (and leave the front stock).

Thanks for letting me "borrow" the pic BozzMan.

I assume the back comes jacked up solely for "an aggressive stance"?

So, if I put TRD springs on the back, would I basically be "level" and have the same gap from tire to fender in the front and back?

Where would I come across just the back TRD springs?

Yes.

Ask around, search, post something in your regional forum, etc.

A few people have thrown the 1st-Gen rear springs on the 2nd-Gen, but keep in
mind that those springs were designed for a vehicle that weighs 600 pounds less.
Personally, I wouldn't do it.

So exactly how much does the TRD or 1st Gen springs lower it? 1 to 1.5 inches? Will any brand of springs made for the xb2 that lower it that much work, or are there some brands to avoid?
