Default City driving with 18's

I finally found the rims I want but having trouble deciding on the size. (17's or 18's) I would like to get 18's and maybe even lower it but am concerned about rough roads as I drive in Manhattan 5 days a week. Does anyone have experience with 18's in a city environment they could share?

I had a set of 17's and than i had 18's on my xb'2 now back to stock till i get my new wheels.

With the 18's it felt fine to me i had a thick tire not so much a low low low profile, i live in queens and between Flushing , Astoria and the City it held up and felt normale to me and im lowared on Tanabe NF-210's. 17's just felt little lighter to the steering wheel but not buy much. and with past car's running on 18's i never bent a rim and i drive all over.

Yea I'm going with a tire that will give me an accurate speed reading which for 18in rims I believe it would be a 40 tire. Pretty low profile I quess. Thanks for the input.

im sorry if this question sounds dumb:

so the bigger the wheel size, the more you'll feel bumps on the road?

Not directly. When the wheels size goes up most people chose tires to keep the same outside diameter so the speedometer stays accurate and there is less chance of rubbing. Doing this means the sidewall of the tire is smaller. A smaller sidewall can't flex as much and absorb bumps so the suspension has to do more work. In the average car the suspension can't absorb everything so that energy is transferred into the chassis where you feel it.

So far I'm getting the impression that the 18's are dooable, unless anyone has a horror story about 18's w/40 series tires they would like to share.

18x8 here on 224/40 kumho and NF drop. Bumps are the worst in the rear..in the front the ride is quite ok. flushing, manhattan, brooklyn, just take it easy. and slamming on the brake when hitting pothole causes a larger shock then accelerating so def take it slow and be careful. tires are expensive and nyc chews up wheels/tires

Default 18s with 225/40/18s

I had a set of 18s put on with 225/40/18 tires. I live in Boston which is potholeville. I was worried about the same thing but its been fine with this size tire. Just got to watc for potholes, more concerned with bending my Enkei LF-10's than anything else.

Most people seem to run 225/40 tires on 18's but depending on the wheel width, offset, and spring drop; you can also step up in tire size to 225/45 or 235/40 to get a little more sidewall. (Yes, if you go all the way up to 225/45 your speedo will be off a little bit.)

Alright, that does it. 18's it is. Now I have another problem. I have waited so long that now I'm not sure I like my rim choice anymore. Does anyone have an opinion? Keep in mind my car is nautical blue http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...227541658&rd=1
Thanks

First off, those are 4 lug wheels, won't fit our 5x114.3 pattern.

Second, I personally think the fact that those wheels are a lighter and brighter blue than NBM will look terrible.

Yes I know about the size, just using the pic and I'm starting to think the same thing about the lighter color looking terrible, thanks.

Might I respectfully suggest something along these lines:

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...14.3&tc=KONAFT

They're available in 18x7.5 +45 offset, and 18x8 +40 offset. IMHO I think they would look great on NBM.
