Default Machined wheel durability?

Does anyone with a machined surface on thier wheel and have been through at least one winter in a state with alot of snow with alot of salt on the roads?

I've heard these surfaces are harder to keep looking new than painted wheels through salty winters. Is this true? If anyone has both painted and machined surfaces on their wheels, is one or the other harder to keep new or harder to clean, etc.?

Most people who live in that kind of weather run 2 sets of wheels winter and summer wheels. Its true machined surfaces are more likely to oxidize lose the clear coat and get weathered over a painted wheel.
