Default multi-spoke, 7, 8, 10, 12 choices for BSM?

I have narrowed it down to the spoke design, 7 and up, 18 x 7.5 or 18 x 8, but looking at all the sites, it's really difficult to tell the quality of the wheel. Anyone have pics, or suggestions on this style for a Black Scion? I think silver, with polished rim is what I prefer.

Ok, looks like I'm working through this myself. I think I have decided on the Enkei J10's formy black xb.

The 18 x 7.5 only show a 38 offset. Will this be ok? I do plan on a mild lowering, and 225/40/18 tires.

Fitment will be fine, with 18x7.5 +38 you'll be pushing the face of the wheel lips out 3/4" more than the stock steelies. You'll only be about 1/2" back from fully flush with the edge of the front fenders. You definitely want to stay with 225/40 tires so you don't have any rubbing issues after you drop it.

Cionide,

I'm interested in the same combo. I'm doing the NF drop, would it be better to find a wheel with a larger offset? I want it to be right

And should I look for 18 x 8's, or 18 x 7.5's?

I have noticed that you have mentioned many sizes of tires in your posts. I think your latest is 225/45-18? You said you wanted more tire for a good ride, and to fill the wheel well better. Is this the tire size you still advocate? Isn't this tire size about an inch taller than the stock wheel / tire combo?

Thanks in advance for any help. BTW, what wheels are you getting?

Casey

Normally you'll want to go with 225/40-18 tires, or 235/40 depending on the wheel offset and drop. 225's have the largest selection and are cheaper than 235's.

7.5" and 8" wide both work fine, it just depends on what's available in the particular wheel you select. Most manufacturers make their 18's in one width or the other, but usually not both.

225/45-18 tires are taller, and will only work with large offsets (+45 to +50) and even then you have to be careful because some tires are actually bigger in diameter than their numbers should calculate out to. For example, 225/45-18 should be about 26" in diameter, but Falken Ziex ZE912's are actually 26.3" which is the difference between fitting fine and rubbing. This kind of high offset and sizing combo is generally not what most xB2 owners are looking for, so I would recommend staying away from it.

You should be fine with either 18x7.5 +38 or 18x8 +38 on NF springs with 225/40 tires. If you want to go up to 235/40 tires, I would recommend an offset closer to +45 with the NF springs.

Thanks Cionide, I'm begining to get some clarity....

Don't think I didn't notice that you artfully dodged what YOUR choice was going to be for wheels! LOL

One big problem I have been seeing is the weight of some of these 18's. This is why I'm looking at the Enkei's. Are there other brands that are around the weight of stock?

Oh, and you said "Normally you'll want to go with 225/40-18 tires, or 235/40 depending on the wheel offset and drop", does this mean I can, or cannot run the 235's with these J10's with the 38 offset and the mild NS drop?

Thanks for all your help.

I wouldn't run the 235's with +38 offset on the NF drop.

I know somebody else rubbed with 235's with +35 offset on NF's, and I doubt if the 3mm difference is enough to make sure you don't rub over bumps or dips.

I'll see what I can find that might be on the lighter side, and still comparable in design & finish. I'll send you a PM later today, can't do it at work right now.

It wasn't artfully dodged, it was artfully omitted.
I'm looking at some JDM wheels that are cost effective, nothing special, but they aren't currently imported into the U.S. and the shipping would be as expensive as the wheels. I've been in conversation with an importer/distributor who feels he can get them thrown in with another order when I'm ready (waiting to wear out the OEM tires first). Since they're currently not even available in the size & offset I want, I'm not throwing any useless info out.
