Default Tire pressure

It's getting colder now and was wondering which tire pressure you guys run on your cars the one on the tire or the psi from Toyota which is 32 psi? I just put it to 40 today

Never run what is on the tire, run what is on the door jamb sticker or in the owners manual. That is based upon the cars weight and weight distribution.

And running them that high only increases wear on the tire. People will talk about getting better mileage, but the extra money you save per year (which is very, very little) isnt going to offset having to replace tires earlier.

I run 40psi front & 36psi rear year-round. My Falken 912's have 33k miles on them and still have plenty of tread.

The important thing is that you take care of your tires and check the pressures and inspect them once a month

They will still perform and wear better at the pressure listed on the vehicle. That is why that pressure is listed.

And my condolences on the 912's ... I bought the same tires and have been dissapointed ever since. They are about one rung up the ladder from RE92's in snow performance and moderate in wet performance. The Avon all seasons I replaced with these were worlds better for the same price. Not what I expected out of Falken.

The tire pressure listed on the vehicle is based on the OEM wheel size & tire size. Reasonable adjustments to these pressures can be made under certain conditions. I run 40psi up front because I stepped up to 7" wide wheels with 225 tires, and I now have a bit more tire bulge. The additional pressure reduces the squishiness (you like that word?) of the sidewalls when transitioning through turns. The rears, at 36psi, are only 3# above recommended and I do that just to compliment the increased front pressure.

I've actually been really pleased with the performance of the 912's overall. They are far superior to the OEM Goodyear RS-A's on dry pavement (although that's certainly not a difficult task), and have found them to be fine on wet pavement. I tend to drive very carefully in the rain, so I may not have tested their abilities as much as some other drivers. Being in Cali at sea-level, snow has never been a consideration, and we only have an average annual rainfall of 20-25 inches in the S.F. bay area.

Ok thanks guys I think I'll put them to 35 all around and we try not to drive around on the rain too much with the xb.... We just use our suburban or sienna. We were from Wisconsin and cars didn't really do good during winter, plus the suburban helped carry lots of stuff and people.

If you're on the stock tires & wheels, follow what the door sticker says, just make sure you do it when the tires are cold.
