Default Tire Pressure?

I'm running 225x40 18's. What tire pressure would you recommend? I've used rule of thumb 80% of max psi on the tire wall. Does that still hold?

thanks,

Ronnie

I think my dz101s say 50psi max. I have it at upper 30s maybe 40 when cold.

I'm on 225/45-17 and run 38 front & 35 rear, which is 3# over recommended pressure for the OEM 16's. Ride & tire wear are still excellent.

I have 225/40/18 with continental dws. Max pressure is 51 psi. I keep them around 45 and like the ride. It feels about the same as it did with the factory 205 with 35 pounds in them except better in the turns. But that's probably technically to high.

When the pressure gets low you may find the tires following road lines and paint stripes, that is a sure sign you need higher pressure. If it still does that when the pressure is near the max on the side wall, you probably need new tires

I've learned threw the years where I live. If I run 35-45 I bend rims on the roads here. My $60 tire is cheaper then a new wheel. Lol

Good enough reason. Now please tell me what area has those kinda roads so I can avoid taking a Road Bike across them.
On the other hand a DRZ SM might be fun blow across.

I was gonna ask if you get decent tread life but I'll assume that is not your primary concern. I tend to inflate Road/Street Bike Tires 2-5 lbs above max, and usually get better than average tread life and no detriment to adhesion.

I live around Baton Rouge, la. Every road is under construction and none of them are ever finished lol. As for tire life. I get average life for running a low profile sport tire. I've got right at 60k on the car and I'm about to need my third set.

Ah! Never been in La. Will Ride Dual Sport if I attempt it. Thanks for the heads-up.
