Default Working on Getting the Right Look...

Ok, so a few months back I posted on here about a rim project I was working on...specifically my custom drilled BMW BBS Style 5 17''x8'' +20 rims that I was working on getting refurbished.

Name: DSCN4169.jpg
Views: 46
Size: 112.9 KB

Well, I'm still getting them refurbished, but after buying 1GreeKtc's KSports and getting on that "new" low, I'm thinking that the 17's are not going to be the look I'm going for, especially after checking out Snowflake's and Neek's stance and fitment...

So, I'll be trying to get that Hellaflush look on somewhat of a budget by pre-ordering the new XXR 527's from NLmotoring.

http://www.nlmotoring.com/XXR-527-Wheels-s/1649.htm

These are coming out in January and they have some awesome sizes available.

The ones that I'm getting are the 18''x8.75'' +20 fronts, 18''x9.75 +20'' rears, in gold. I'll be ordering some 215/35/18 Nankang NS-IIs from onlinetires.com to wrap the rims in.

All together, this package should come in under $1k. Rolling and pulling fenders will def. be in my future, but I don't think that I'll have too much trouble rolling on these since they are pretty similiar in specs to Snowflake's setup.

So be on the lookout for some 17'' BBS rims for sell on here!!

Opinions? Comments? Hate my ideas...Let me know! But at least I'll be getting the XXR's from the first batch released so pics will def. be on the way whenever I get the rims in...

Nothings wrong with them, it's just that I can get brand spankin' new rims in 18'' with a more aggressive fit for roughly the same price it would cost to refurbish the Style 5's.

I've seen some xB2's on here that have semi-aggressive 17's and I don't know how I feel about them...I think that 18's look better. Hell at one point I had 19'' TSW Thruxton's on my box, but the damn tires for 19's are too expensive!

I'd stick with the BBS's..... they are sexy. I tried to get a mesh wheel but couldn't find one from DPE in my size....

Ok, so I pulled the trigger on the XXR's and I'll be looking for them to be delivered here in the next few weeks. Now on to tire shopping...

I was originally going to go with 215/35/18's all around, but I've decided to go with 215/40/18 Nankang NS-II's instead.

Now I'm not sure about the 215/40/18's in the rear on the 18x9.75'' rim. I'm thinking that the stretch might be a little too much, especially after seeing some examples of the same tire size on 10'' wide wheels online.

Would I be better off going with the 225/40's in the rear? My only concern with this, is that it is going to be a beefier tire, and that maybe I won't clear the fender as easily as I would with either the 215/40's or 215/35's...

I know that some hardcore rolling and pulling are in my future but if I'm going to spend $400 on tires, I need them to be the right size and fit...Any advise?

what sizes did you go with?

Im running 225-35-19 front and 235-35-19 rear the rear is a nice fit even without camber plus if you went really aggressive you'll have a little more stretch in the rear considering you have another .5" of wheel. Use this site tyrestretch.com

I went with the 18''x8.75'' +20 in the front and 18''x9.75'' +20 in the rear...

I think your sizes might be a little big Pasquale...since I'm going to be static, I need to have some tires that won't rub all day long...

Option 1 = 215/35/18 front and rear

Option 2 = 215/40/18 front and rear

Option 3 = 215/40/18 front 225/40/18 rear

I really wanna go with option 2, but I'm just worried about that rear tire being stretched too much. If the rims were 9.5'' wide instead of 9.75'', I wouldn't care, but that extra .25'' has got me a little worried

I don't know, I might just go ahead and order Option 2 and see if it works...

option 1 - http://www.tyrestretch.com/9.5_215_3...oyo_T1.jpg.php option 2 - http://www.tyrestretch.com/9.5_215_4...enza_2.jpg.php option 3 - http://www.tyrestretch.com/9.5_225_4...SP2000.jpg.php They're not exact because 9.75 is a pretty non uniform size but none the less this will give you a pretty good idea of how the stretch is going to look. You can go to a tire shop and ask them what the recormended stretch on a specific tire. Just be careful bro! I'd hate to hear about a homie blowing a bead on the freeway or something.

Yeah I checked out that website too, I was just unsure about the weird rim size matching with the tire...

But, I think that I'll be ordering the 215/40's for the front and rear and see how that works...

Talked to NLmotoring, and the rims will not be shipped till Mid-January, so the wait begins

Front: 18x9.5 215/40/18
Rear: 18x10 215/40/18

Running with this set up for almost a year. No problems.

^^^
Thank you sir! If you can run a 215/40 on a 10'' wheel, then I sure as poop can run it on a 9.75''!!

I'll be placing my order in tomorrow from onlinetires.com.

Anybody interested in some project BBS rims for sale?

Just a quick update...

XXR 527's should be at my door early to mid January, I'm leaning more on mid to late January due to the Holidays...

I've ordered 4 Nankang NSIIs 215/40/18 from onlinetires.com, good price $322 shipped to my door, and they should be here next week.

I've already got a local shop that mounts stretched tires ($10 a wheel) on stand by for when the rims get here, and I've also got a buddy with a fender roller waiting (owe him a case of beer).

Need to order some hubcentric rings from NLmotoring as well and I should be set. The only thing that's been bothering me is getting some longer wheel studs because I hate that there is so little thread engagement on the stock wheel studs. So I'm thinking that either the 35mm or 45mm studs should work, gotta get out and measure a stock stud to see the difference.

Other than that, I'm looking for some cool and not ridiculously expensive lug nuts as well (blue, black, or neo-chrome) and that should complete the wheel setup.

Will def. post pics once parts start arriving !!

Emanuel

P.S. I also bought a new front lip to replace my old Home Depot one. Not gonna give any details yet, but it's a stock lip to a vehicle I used to own in 03. Hint...Blue Oval car...

And Im really excited to see the new stance man! Cant wait! Cant wait!
