2013 xD gear oil change
Hi all, I am new to the forum here. I've done quite a bit of searching and I haven't come up with any usable information. Being October 17, it is starting to get cold up here in Cleveland, Ohio. The 5 speed transmission on my new 2013 Scion xD seems to be getting quite notchy. The car only has 5500 miles on it. Considering it gets to about 10 degrees here, I would like to nip this problem in the butt before it gets too cold. I was wondering what gear oil you guys were running in your transmissions for cold temperatures. My other question is, is it safe to use GL-5 gear oil in our transmissions? Is Eneos any good for our transmissions? the Tc guys seem to love it. Thank you for all of your help.

According to what I've read, the oils are quite different, each formulated for specific types of gear sets etc. If GL-5 is the specified oil you need to stick with that. BTW, Amsoil doesn't even list anything it carries that'll work on your XD's gearbox, that tells me there's a very good chance using the wrong oil can cause issues as they love to sell crossover products as much as possible.

Do not do anything. Have you never had a manual vehicle? Notchiness is prime and will not go away. The cold thickens it up and there is nothing you can do. It's not a bad thing, it does eventually heat up. I do not advise you to change fluids for any reason, you'll raise more hell. Plus dude, 5500 miles? Really? You're good.
