Engine swap
#2
1zzfe from the 9th gen carolla s should fit, if you can find one at a junk yard, or the 2zzge from the 200-2004 celica gt-s with one different engine mount will fit in to the xD. I would also suggest getting rid of your tansmission, c59 if it's the MT, not sure the model of the auto, and try to pick up the c60, which is the 6 speed MT from the celica gts as well. if you got an auto, doing a conversion to a MT is way more, so use the existing transmission but don't expect it to last long. if you're looking for power gains, save up and get a turbo, less time, less money, more power. most parts you may need can be found here.

small potatoes. My friend currently has a JDM 3SGTE from a wrecked SW20 MR2. Come to MD and use that instead!
Also, engine swaps are stupidly expensive and complicated and I question if you will have the time, money, skills and resolve to see this through. It would be quicker, easier and more effective to have a turbo kit installed than to attempt to make a completely different engine run in that car.

I recommend a Rotec R3600. It won't be easy, and you're going to have ... issues ... from the torque ... but you should be able to use a Rotec gearbox.
9 cylinders
150 hp
I can't find good numbers for the torque, but "more than you can possibly use" should be good enough.
