short shifter differences?
trd quick shift $143 shipped from trdsparks

nst ssk $108 shipped
piggies ssk $84 shipped on ebay
i'm trying to decide which one to buy but i can't tell what's the diff between these. they all look the same and are all made of 6061. nst offers diff colors tho. piggies is only black and trd is only silver. piggies is the cheapest. i dunno which to get. its either nst or piggies. anyoneknow what the diff is besides price?
I actualy have the NST and have had access to the TRD. Hands down NST for the win. Why do I say this? Cause NST is the kind of company that will end up producing more xD parts for us if they see a xD need.
Plus color options are cool and they are cool dudes who will talk you through any questions if you have any.
heres my DIY install if you missed it...

The differences are very simple actually...
1. The NST piece is HARD anodized, which is the strongest in the industry. This means that the NST piece will be the most durable in the long run. The TRD piece and ebay knock-offs generally are NOT hard anodized.
2. The NST piece is built by a company that has been supporting the Scion community like no other. NST offers more pulleys for the Scion community than all of the competition combined and we will continue to develop new products for you guys IF you support us.
3. NST service is like no other... You can find us on AIM, you can PM us here, you can Email us from our website, you can chat with us at Scion meets and events.
4. Just a couple of the more well recognized Scions using NST products these days...

One final note... You can find NST products at a few very well respected locations...
www.NonStopTuning.com
www.Dezod.com
www.G2Autosports.com
www.Garage1217.com
Many thanks to those of you who have supported us thus far, I hope we can continue to bring great products to your community in the future.

Did NST design the piece? I'm sure TRD is extatic that people copy a piece that they put some R&D into, drop the price and then mention coating on an aluminum part that will be out of sight it's entire life as an "advantage".
Classy.

so there is no reason to bring up comments like "classy" about any company.
bottom line is this...support companies that are bringing our xDs performance parts so we can get more.
as far as not seeing this short shifter...it is very easy to see it in my engine bay and looks great to be honest.
What should be considered classy is the following...
Company A has built a product that performs very well, is very well established, and charges a pretty penny for it as a result. This piece works very well for a solid chunk of aluminum. Any customer using this piece should be proud to own a quality product.
Company B has been building superior products at rock bottom prices over the past few years. This company comes in the picture, builds a similar piece, and tops it off with HARD anodizing. HARD ANODIZING is a process far superior to a solid chunk of aluminum. Hard anodized pieces last longer, look better, and do not wear down after years of abuse. Hard anodized aluminum is superior to a solid chunk of material when resting and rubbing against a steel tranny fork.
Building a great product in the USA while other companies are taking their facilities overseas, making said product stronger, offering several color options to the customer, and selling it at a lower price is classy indeed.
Copying something using cheap materials, spraying it black, and listing it on ebay as "not NST" is certainly ....

I like a good deal as much as the next guy and I bought NST stuff before and was very happy with it (SC pulley for the tC). But keep your fingers crossed that TRD didn't take time to patent the part.
IllNist, companies like NST (and TRD for that matter) are not charities - they make money on people like you and me and will use any strategies available to sway us into buying their product. Blind following is what they love.
I am sorry if I sound sceptical, but I've seen and heard a lot of inflated sales BS from aftermarket manufacturers to trust any of it. From $200 WR short rams to $600 Alphawerks headers - makes it hard to trust the hype.
NST is actually one of the good guys in this game.

My main reason for sticking so dedicated to NST is they are 100% legit and dedicated to building stuff other companies just pass on. You come from the Tc so you are used to companies tossing parts left and right... I am from the xA and I know the importance of supporting the companies willing to go that extra mile and take a risk on the Scion underdog.
Hype, empty advertising, and noise is found in ricer street magazines and on cheap ebay ads...
Hype and blind following is the complete opposite of what NST stands for and strives to achieve. As president of NST, I am available on AIM on a daily basis for the sole purpose of educating and communicating with the customer base. We want you to know why certain products work the way they do, what happens when you use them, and exactly why our products are superior. I have said this a million times, please feel free to look for me on AIM at the screen name " NSTonAIM " should you ever have any questions.
Go to ricer street ads and ebay pages if you want hype...
Go to the following link if you want 10+ pages of actual first hand reviews of the NST SSK...

the NST SSK, like their pulleys, is HARD anodized. This is superior to TRD (bar aluminum) and I suspect the eBay seller's product as well.
They are $91 (with FREE shipping) at www.g2autosports.com (same part as the one for the Yaris).
NST FTW.

thx for the ffedback. i've heard all the good stuff about nst and i see them backing their products. but my questions was what is the difference between the shifters besides, price and anodize color? all the material seems to be the same and the the way they work looks the same too. anyone?
There is no functional difference. TRD, even with their lack of coating will not corrode and deteriorate over time and it's backed by your local (sometimes friendly) dealer.
Piggies is the biggest unknown of the 3. NST is somewhere in the middle.
And yes, it was TRD's idea that got duplicated.

I have been using the NST SSK since the first batch rolled off the line, as well as everything NST has produced for our little car. We have a very limited preformance market and NST stepped up and provided us with what we needed. Also with the similarities with the Scions and the Yaris, I am sure there will be many more quality products in the future.
